Initially was done by courtenays, but wasnt right and had to be adjusted by Back on track, it was fine for quite a while (many months) but then I started getting squeeling issues and seem to now regularly shread belts, even though nothing has moved or changed. It had a new tensioner shortly after the sc was done as the 1270 belt fitted was pulling it too tight and had damaged bearings and its fine still. The car uses 1285 belts and the ones shredding have all been contis so am trying another make at the mo but am aware something isnt right. Is there a proper garunteed way of aligning these things, laser or something rather than eye and who can do it? Martin s

Converted 3 cars and all with the pulley moved 1.5mm outward on the SC's. Belt runs on the 5 inner ribs and no hint of squeel on them. My own with 5PK1270 belt, the other 2 with a 5PK1285 fitted...

Is it normal to pull the pulley back a few mm as standard or have you fitted them on the car and adjusted accordingly? Just I am getting a local garage to remove and fit a new pulley as I dont have the equipment.

moving that pulley can be a pig of a job. IF you can get a laser fitted to the face of the bottom pulley you could then measure to the the other pulleys by changing the angle of the laser. Difficult to explain in words probably better with a picture. However I think it's your SC pulley that is out. Do you remember when my SC was leaking oil. I was told by the supplier that the SC had probably be dropped on it's nose in transit. Or more probable wasn't put on right in the first place. The pulley was pushed on so far it was actually rubbing against the nose cone. This could be the case with yours but not as much. The other thing is we got our SC's from the same supplier!! I've just measured from the inside edge of the pulley to the nose cone flat face and mine measures 147mm. Caveat to that is that it was with a steel rule and very much relied on my eye. If you want give me a call and i can talk you through it. Bearing in mind that if you're out by a millimeter it could cause overheating of the belt. I don't think that the belt manufacturer is the problem as loads are using conti belts. Cheers Chris

Mine is 148mm. I had a Continental belt for nearly 13000m with no problems.
