hi all,
i'm in the process of getting two new rear tyres (black circles £123.66 fitted for potenzas)
whilst the car is in i was going to get the front wheels balanced "on the car" as advised by my local vauxhall dealership (to cure an ongoing judder problem). The guy from black circles said he wouldn't recommend this as it may damage the limited slip diff!
now i am under no illusion that i know anything about the workings of cars, but is this bloke correct? (why would vauxhall recommend it?) and does the car have a limited slip diff?
sorry if this is a noddy question?
regards and cheers H.

Ok, the car is rear wheel drive, so balancing the front wheels on the car won't cause any problems whatsoever.
The diff isn't limited slip anyway, so balancing the rear on the car won't cause problems either.
Unless you aren't talking about a VX220, but a Jap Rall y rep.

PS Isn't balancing on the car just masking a problem that shouldn't be there anyway - I'm sure no-one else has needed to do this...

When you say that you intend to get the front wheels balanced I take it you mean the wheel and tyre. As Bengie says theres no LSD. As regards balancing the tyres on the wheels this is something that is paramount. Dynamic balance is much better than static balance and by doing this you should elliminate the vibration felt through the steering wheel.

I wouldn't be taking my car back there.
If this guy couldn't see that it was a RWD car and came out with that crap about the LSD (most cars don't have them so why would he assume that) then he sounds like a brain dead numb cnut.
Go to a reputable company (i.e. not ATS or similar) to get it done.
*edit to add. Not many companies do on car wheel balancing. If Vxl do, it might be worth giving it to them. However IMO it shouldn't really be nessesary. It may be a problem elsewhere, like the hub or brake disk.
