Anyone know of a good standalone ecu with electronic tb and 60-2 trigger wheel. Just thinking about options etc and if there is a better one than the z20 ecu chinky chinky

I do and no second thoughts at all. All that's left to so is mapping Which is the easy part Just now no le mans no deadlines so if there is a better ecu out there then I have the time to do it

not muc choice really, and they're all ££££ Hofmann's have had good results with the Syvecs (was Solaris), although not sure if any can use the ion sensing knock system that the Z22SE/SAAB use*. The SAAB Tritonic 7 does do ion sensing but not sure what the trigger wheel pattern is * then again not sure how the Z20let conversion is doing it either?

So what ya reckon then, Not much better ones than an open book oem ecu then? Use a z20 knock sensor, same fitment as the z22 one thumbsup

I'm not sure you're going to get much better than an open OEM ECU from what I know of ECUs (which isn't a lot!)

Are you still using Ion sensing with your Z22YH coil pack as a pseudo cam position sensor? Or are you running a proper cam position sensor now? If you're using a dedicated sensor, then your only stumbling block will be ETB support. Your trigger wheel pattern should be supported by most aftermarket ECU's.

 @ open book OEM..... I doubt that the Z20 pcm is properly open book to give full access to all the fun parts of the calibration. I think there is a motec that can run ETB but not the groovy ion cam sensor (but then you can just get an L61 cam sensor fitted surely) which is about the cheapest option, but even then you are looking at a minimum of a grand + vat + loom + calibration time. Atleast the 'open" (chuckle) OEM setup has a decent enough idle and cold start calibration to make it all much more bearable.

The Z22SE does not use ion sensing for knock monitoring, only for cam phase signal

Motec would be my choice but freekin expensive. DTA come a close second and then I'd go cable throttle. Just buy a cable LS1 throttle from the US. Having said that, getting the Z20 ECU going will be the cheapest and most direct route. The only downside is being tied to CMS for mapping but I dont see that as being bad.

I guess the best thing to do is stay with the z20 then and stop trying to look for ways of improving dome thing that isn't finished yet :beat: Im just getting a bit bored... Car is almost fully back together and finished.... Not sure what to do when it is

Fingers crossed that within 12 months I'll have SS completed and working for ETB support with no extra boxes or sh** in the harness like some do.

PCB schematic and track layout is done. I just need to get someone at work to do the file export for me so I can send the data off for manufacture :P
I'm going to buy some 'big' components to make a couple of prototypes up in the mean time and send them to a couple of deserving test monkeys

I've got a Monkey light on in my Stack, that's starting to do my head in. Well, that and the low coolant and handbrake warning light as well.

My best monkey impression!

I can do a video of me actually doing this and accept the public humiliation....... if only to be one of the monkeys who gets one of these prototypes! ;)

I think one of the most interesting design to follow for the years to come would be the ones based on the Freescale Qorriva evaluation board design http://www.msqorivva...forum/index.php or maybe even the 5554openecu design...
