Sadly for sale to fund the purchase of Matty's VX220 http://www.pistonhea...les/3129277.htm The time has come to part with our piece of Automotive History. What we have is an ex-works Renault 5 Coupe Cup Car that was raced in the Renault Coupe Cup (the forerunner to the Clio Cup) between 1987 and 1990. This was one of the original Radborne Racing entries and as such has never been a converted road car, this is the real McCoy and has been a racing car from birth. This is the sister car to Tony Hart’s much publicised race car and spent many years being looked after by Prima Racing after it was passed on by Radborne Racing. It is currently offered in original Renault works colours of white over yellow over black and whilst it is not pristine (it is a 24 year old race car after all) it is very presentable. We have rebuilt the engine with new liners and pistons and we currently run 175 BHP reliably however you could look to go further on this spec if you wanted. At the time of the rebuild, the bottom end was balanced with the rods balanced end to end, the flywheel was balanced as well as lightened and the cylinder head was ported, gas flowed and polished. Up front, there is a Forge Motorsport Intercooler which really does the job of keeping the intake temps down and all the engine hoses are upgraded to silicon items. The turbo oil feed is upgraded to the stainless, braided type and we have never had an issue with oil leaks which the standard item is prone to. There is a Blitz fully adjustable electronic boost control fitted and working which makes fine boost level tuning simple and more importantly safe and there is a huge tachometer and shift light fitted on the dash. The interior is as you would expect, a bit sparse with just a fully fitted roll cage, single racing seat and harness and a plumbed in fire extinguisher. Perspex windows to the front and rear as well as the rear screen are fitted and un-marked. The driver’s side has a slider fitted and a spare slider is provided if you wanted to fit the same for the passenger side. We have just upgraded all the front suspension bushes for Powerflex items and offered with the car are Powerflex ARB bushes which are yet to be fitted. All the engine mounts are new and upgraded so there is no engine movement to worry about and all mounts and bushes are good for years to come. Shocks are as fitted to the original car so are upgraded from stock and we are offering a set of Eibach front lowering springs with the sale. We have just fitted brand new Mintex discs and pads to the front axle however the rears whilst perfectly serviceable would need to replaced at some point. The wheels currently on the car are 15” Revolutions shod with Toyo 888 tyres (195/50/15) which are fantastic all round track tyres and offered with the car are three sets of original (and very rare) Coupe Cup wheels and tyres, two sets of slicks and one set of wets. We have a big box of spares with the car including a gearbox and partial engine and cylinder head as well as original glass, spare bonnet and some hoses. Also offered with this sale is our Brian James Clubman trailer with all straps to tie the car down. This is in great condition and fully working although the winch has seen better days. We bought this car 5 years ago to compete in sprints and hillclimbs which we did in 2007 however due to time and family commitments that was the only season we did compete in. Since then the car has been used no more than twice a year for a couple of Renault Sport and RTOC track days. A new project beckons and it is with a heavy heart that we offer this piece of history for sale. The car is ready to run and can be used as a track day car, historic race car, sprint or hillclimb car, Track Day Trophy car and many other uses and is eligible for quite a few championships. It comes complete with the MSA logbook and really is ready to go. Priced at £4,200 which is a bargain for such a rare racing car.

:yeahthat:

Why am I so hugely tempted with this...

R5 is one of those itches from my youth that's never been scratched.

1, Insufficient gratuitous 'three wheel' shots - more please  2, 6 shots of the offside. Nearside been wrapped round a tree? How about some trim and engine pics. :tumble: 3, You have any idea what trailers fetch these days? You are valueing the car at £3K.

Matty will be Cliffie's right hand man and co-owner of the R5.

Yup, Matty was my wingman for the Le Mans trip and the man I share the car with. These are the only shots I have of the car, maybe I need to shoot some more if I can be bothered to drag it off the trailer out of the garage. It does tripod nicely Andrew but was not pushing too hard as it was only a trackday. Lovely car to drive, so easy compared to the VX. Yup, the trailer is worth about £800 so the car is a bargain at £3,400. Would sell seperately if needed but would rather sell as a tow away package if I can. BTW, the trailer will NOT fit a VX, too narrow. Ideal for a hot hatch.

Want to do a px with an Audi S3 thrown in? Will dig out some of the old vag powered 5 for some real 3 wheel action, in fact got a mild 2 wheel shot at cadwell also. Great cars!!!!! Also the trailer I am using is way too big for the track beast (twin axle jobbie) and on the look out for a smaller item ;) Seen the car in action a few times and is a really nice example DG

Yes miss that little rocket! My ability only ever got down to a 8:31 BTG at the ring but always held its own on track and even mixed it up with Exotic at Spa. Mike what’s wrong with yours? Maybe it needs a full rebuild, some DG loving? Talk to me, can take that to Spa as a backup for if it rains as the track beast only wants nice dry weather lol DG

Nowt wrong with my VX, just want another one.

Long old way to tow the 5 just in case it rains, better off changing the tyres on the VX IMHO.

LOL ignore most of the pm I on ly just sent then :D I have the SR20DET powered LA Gold but there is not an LSD option fo rthe exle I am currently running and only have A048's or slicks and never driven the car in anger yet but with 250bhp and 250ft / lb in a sub 600kg F/R layout you know its going to be a bit twtichy lol Did you see Flans conversion at Mallory this year? His is running a touch more power but a lot bigger car and lot heavier than mine but even that with 225 rears can over power at will, I am runnnig 185's lol Have the S3 which needs a few small items so I can tak ethe omega off the road and vx is away covered up waiting for some DG development and general messing lol If I took that 5 over to Spa it would be going round the ring also chinky chinky DG
