Still trying to pin down the cause of the pinking in my car and wondered if it would be worth trying this... http://www.fuelteche...g44k-and-bg244/ If it reduced the pinking then this may indicate a problem with the injectors which I can then take out and get cleaned. However, looking on the net some people say this product doesn't work and may actually damage the cats. Anyone used this stuff? Would it harm the cats? Cheers

avoid. you can get injectors rebuilt to nearly new performance for around £15 an injector. If you think thats what is causing you're problem then thats a far better option.

Thanks - its just that I'm not sure the problem is the injectors. So I thought rather than possibly going to all of the trouble of removing them and finding they are not the problem using the Redex may help confirm that these are the source of the pinking..

I'd rather pour water in the fuel tank.

Can injectors degrade with time/wear? I know they can get clogged or whatever, but is it worthwhile getting them rebuilt if I have a high milage car? (90k) </sorry for the thread drift>

Yes they can, its like a light abrasive to open the injector hole more than desired etc.

An injector refurb will be the bet thing for performance/mpg compared to 90% of all other tat mods

hmmmm....sounds like it's worthwhile doing. Is it difficuult to get them out (ooer) or swap them over? Could a ham-fisted monkey with a spanner like me do it?

Whilst not VX related, I wouldn't mind having the diesel injectors in my Insignia refurbed. £15 per injector is no-where near as much as I thought it was going to be. Or is that just for petrol injectors? I've been a bit reluctant to remove them as I heard that it was a no-no on my old Mondeo as they would need re-programming afterwards. Not sure if diesel injectors differ massively from petrol injectors?

hugely different pieces of kit I'm afraid. And frankly yours shouldnt be anywhere near screwed.

CR derv injectors are specced to cope with 200Bar and finely finely finely machined to deliver precise fuelling etc. I'd only want injectors from the Tier 1 as opposed to refurb items, and yes they are coded to let the PCM know what the flow characteristics are so it can fine tune things ;)

Just pop some BP Ultimate fuel in your tank for a few refills as that has various things in it which clean the injectors etc!

Thats a good call and will keep injectors cleaner for longer.Lots of short runs with standard fuel will eventually leave a varnish type build up and a good injector cleaner over a tank or two can help reduce it.
Its the fuel left on the injector when you turn the engine off that leaves the deposits over time, hence lots of short runs is worse.(and thats me so i use it)
