Folks, Can anyone give me a quick guide to install the pulley onto an M62 SC? Was thinking of heating the pulley (~100c in the oven) quickly on and afew taps with a hammer (precision taps of course!). Alternatively, use a bolt in the snout to drive it in (heated also). Advice..? Ross

Good luck with this. Back on Track tried heating the pulley with a heat gun for ages whilst hanging the charger from it with weights to try and get the pulley off and failed. So if it's hard to take off i'm assuming that its difficult to put on. I would suggest pressing on, perhaps take the snout off first.

To get the pulley to fit it needs to be heated up to 180c. Not sure if 100c will work but someone else more knowledgeable will be along and help you.

Mine was glowing red hot when Courtenay's were trying to get the smaller modular pulley on and there were three of them, wielding various implements and gas torches to do it. :o

I just mounted a ZZP pulley system this week. Made an M10 pressing thread/nut with about 3cm that I could thread into the SC M8 snout. Thought the hub would mount easy when pre-heated (not red hot..), but it needed heating-up several times with a gas torch before it was fully seated... Pressing off I do in a vertical car press; just hang the SC on its pulley on the supports and press the snout off. Some pulley heating works here too.

Gave it a go tonight. In the oven till 200c Posted Image Out and onto the shaft. A few good taps with the mallet and it was half there (should have percievered with that method in hindsight) then an M8 bolt and nut in the snout got it almost the rest of the way then became a bit of a slog with little progress. So basically, I've given up with the pulley 4/5ths on...

So I'll need to find somewhere non-monkey like to hopefully finish the job... Now I'm thinking "maybe I should just have put on the stage 2 pulley..."

Just heat the pulley/hub again with a torch and try to seat it fully with the M8 thread/nut.
(and ideally for a 5 rib belt, a 6 rib pulley should be set 1.5mm from fully seated...)

Yeah, I think I'll need to... Its a stage 1 pulley (from CMS) so is the correct 5 peak pulley

Thanks

I am not looking forward to this but probably just try with a blow torch first and see how it goes. Do 'normal' garages have stuff to get these off, am I likely to be able to go to a local garage to get it done or need to find a specialist place if I struggle?

Thats exactly what I was thinking last night when I got stuck  But nah, 220 bhp will do me through the winter at least!

As for taking the pulley off, I put mine into a local garage (sort of a BMW specilaist) and they stuck it on the hydraulic press which made lite work of the removal, so best phone a few places first to see who can do it..

My exhaust is holding me back from going stage 2, I would be willing to fit charge cooling as the front clam has recently been off. Could a stage 1.5 work with the standard pulley, charge cooler and a standard exhaust? What is the result of having a too small pulley, will it run, will it map, will it blow up?

Basically the intake temp will go way up as your not cooling the charge (these superchargers produce alot of heat vs. Boost) and most likely suffer detonation / pre-ignition. This is my understanding of it.. My actually has a full 2.5" exhaust system perfect for a stage 2, but I'd honestly don't think I'll make anymore use of the extra power / torque, and want to ensure I keep. everything is completely reliable. I might consider adding the CC cooler stuff later for '1.5' spec.
