Hi, I thought I would share my attempt at making a fire extinguisher bracket :)

Was intending to buy a TAT one, which seemed reasonably priced and are more than likely very nice, but the postage came to as much as the bracket so thought I would have a stab at making one.

A cheeky chat with some random factory and £6 later and I had a big sheet of 3mm Aluminium. Measured a template, cut, smoothed, polished, then drilled the wholes in the wrong place  , did it all again and fitted thumbsup :

Nice and fancy :) I think most people just drill down into the chassis member infront of the seat and tap a thread into the aluminium, but your job can be removed without leaving any visual scars.

:yeahthat:

I went for the simpler approach as Nev said to secure mine.

Looks like you did a good job making it though and it does look smart. thumbsup

Is that a box of desiccant? If so do you find it effective?

Cheers for the feedback thumbsup I had considered drilling the floor but felt like taking the scenic route :) Yes that is a box of stuff that absorbs moisture (if that's what you meant :) )... In the pic, I had just cleaned it out for the first time ever... it was half full of water, which I found amazing albeit it had been in there for maybe 3 months. I think it was a fiver from Hellfrauds, near the caravan stuff.

JG, I've not tested it yet but I doubt it. Only metal vs. metal contact is where its bolted using the seat fixings. Due to the raised pattern of the floor, the fixing points are raised using 2 washers each side. I've then stuck thick adhesive backed foam to the underside at the front, to take some load and damp any vibrations. Feels very sturdy.

Dry powder extinguishers will destroy the aluminium on the chassis so the car is knackered if they are ever deployed anyway.

Foam based is best, but half the life and twice the price of a powder one.

And pretty big also.

Following a nice top down drive this afternoon B) ...No it doesn't rattle.

Dispite the fact that that the powder extinguisher will turn my aluminium chasis to dust shortly before the car burns to the ground due to how ineffective small extinguishers are... I am happy with my installation :D
