Just wondered if anyones done a vtec conversion with a vx220? Obviously quite a few of the Elises have had this done. Not seriously considering doing it, but am thinking about breaking my accord type r and could see a possible use for the engine! Lack of space and mechanical know how make this a bit of a non-starter for me but would be curious if anyone has done it

Cant think why anyone would want to do it given the 'cheap' ways to eek power from the Z22 and Z20

i would consider the vtec a good engine, i have been against an elise with one of these engines, but with readily avaialbe SC conversions for relatively little money, you would be looking at 5.5k just for an engine swap in the case of the elise. stick with what we have got, i still dont think the engines have got their full potential yet. Although a dutatex with a small SC and bike carbs has always got me intested...

I confess I love Honda engines and have owned several Honda's. My screaming 1.6 Civic VTI got me hooked. I can see the attraction but as said above, from a cash perspective its not too easy to justify whatever your rationale.

honda conversions to a toyota based Elise/Exige cost about £10k , there is no reason to think a VX would be cheaper

If you remove the Vauxhall Engine, is it still a Vauxhall VX220? I mean, Lotus' are engine independent right... so the one thing that Vauxhall made was the engine. Does it become a Honda VX20 (if a 2.0 litre is used) etc?

no it's not(IIRC it was Cosworth), LEH was a Lotus developed upgrade.

I'm with JG it look like a lash up.

the reason no one does the is it's costs about half the price of the conversion to get good power out of the any of the vx engines. It would also be nowhere near as good in the heavier vx which really needs some torque.

The base family 11 engine was Cosworth, I know Lotus did the Ecotec heads for the X20XEV but not sure who did the Z20LET or if it is different to the C20LET.
