Hi. My SC VX220 is currently fitted with Yokohama Advan A680 205/50/16 (front) and Yokohama Advan S306 225/45/17 (rear) tyres on TD 1.2 rims. Both front and rear tyres have ample tread left on them and are in overall good condition. The A680 is described by Yokohama as a "High Performance Summer Tyre" and the S306 is described as "The S306 has been designed with seven centre grooves which provide excellent dry and wet weather balance. Yokohama’s spectrum sound control system reduces road noise, promising a more enjoyable drive" These seem to be more of a "pedestrian" choice for a VX220 than the normal track day orentated tyres like the 888 or AO48 ect. I have done a search on here and can't find any info pertaining to these tyres fitment on a VX220. Are or have these tyres been a popular fitment to VX220's in the past and why mix the S306 and A680 (apart from matching size combinations)? Also what are the recommended tyre pressures for the 205/50/16 and 225/45/17 combo. TIA. Chaz.

I've had A460 on mine. They were OK but nothing spectacular. Kind regards, Paul

Thanks Paulus H. It seems by the lack of response that this tyre combo is not common. I have not been able to find specific info on the 16"/17" combo tyre pressures. The 24psi/26psi is quoted for the standard 17" tyre sizes but I'm still a little out to sea on the accepted pressures 16"/17" combo. What are people who use the 16"/17" trye combo running their tyre pressures at? Chaz.

Thank you for the "helpfull" hint to do a search VXed.
Yes, I have searched and did not find the info I needed hence the questions.
Just because I am relatively new to VX220.org does not mean to say I am a complete muppet or completely unable to find my way around an IKonbaord (check out my user name on the Westfield Sports Car Club website http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk where I currently have a post tally of 4300 odd............)

Unfortunatly the thread you linked to does not answer the question I asked about the recommended tyre pressures for the 16"/17" tyre combination.
Yes there is plenty in there on tyre pressures in general but no advice/recomendations specific to the non standard 16"/17" tyre combination unless I have miss read it both on the 28th Dec when I pulled it up on search or just now when I re-read it.
In the thread you linked to iVXT asked the same question but did not get a definitive answer either.
Nobody posted up on that thread and said "I run the 16"/17" combo and I run these pressures" or "the recommended pressures for the 16"/17" tyre combo are...."
The information is not specific.
I was after specific information, that was why I was specific with the information I gave in the OP.
Therefore linking to the thread was pretty pointless.
Did you even bother to read it through before you fired off your reply?

I'm really not out to p*ss anybody off and I'm not taking a poke at you VXed but I find the "do a search mentality" from "established" board members when "newbies" as a question somewhat unwelcoming and unfriendly.
Is that how VX220.org wishes to present it's self to new members?

Chaz.

You're using a totally unknown combination of tyres that nobody has ever heard of, so I'm not sure anyone can give you specific pressures. I've no idea what the characteristics of those tyres are, so what may suit a more well known set of tyres may do your tyres no favours at all.

Start at 24psi on the front and 26psi in the rears and adjust from there.

I run 26psi all round on my R1R's as I feel that suits the softer sidewalls on the front tyres and gives a bit more urgency to the turn-in. Obviously all of that goes out of the window on track and it's either rely on adjusting according to pressures when hot or being slightly more scientific with chalk lines on the sidewalls to diagnose what's happening.

Ive played with my 888's pressures and i cant tell any difference between a few PSI. I check them and keep both fronts the same and both rears 2 PSI higher but i think it takes alot better driver than me to tell/feel the difference!

Same here, but I couldn't get any heat in the fronts on track. With 205 fronts I run the same pressure in the front. With narrower fronts I would start as suggested above.

Thanks for the replys chaps, much appreciated.
I'll start off on the 24/26 settings and move on from there.
I noted that when I picked the car up the pressures were at 20psi all round which I thought was a bit on the low side.

You're using a totally unknown combination of tyres that nobody has ever heard of, so I'm not sure anyone can give you specific pressures. I've no idea what the characteristics of those tyres are, so what may suit a more well known set of tyres may do your tyres no favours at all.

Yes, I'm with you on this though they seem to be doing a good enough job at present and with over 4mm left on them I may as well use them for the time being.
I plan to buy another set of TD with AO48/888 or similar and then use up the existing rubber on airfield days.

Thanks again.
Chaz.
