Convert to an electric water pump?
I like this idea. What exactly is involved with an electric pump conversion?
Might be the cheapest way of freeing up approx. 10 bhp

10bhp
Supposedly 5 bhp per shaft, although I don't know where that figure actually came from. Regardless of the correct number, reducing frictional losses will always help.

Best regards, Paul
Well you can do it with the engine in situ...
but you will need to remove the subframe around it...

didnt nick manage to do it with the engine in, but undoing all the mounts etc and move the engine into what ever place it needs to be?
engine must come out, only other possible way was to pull the shafts out as far as they could go and cut them, not a good idea.

Even if you were crazy enough to try it you still wouldn't be able to knock the bearings back with the engine in situ.
