Sadly my VXT developed a misfire last night. Decided to do an extra couple of miles to make sure she came home properly warmed up - seemed to misfire as soon as temperature showed on the gauge. Misfire didn't really seem to be throttle dependent - bit of a misfire at idle too. MIL light flashed last night then stayed on. Ran OK this morning but MIL light stayed on. Any suggestions? Car lives outside so could be wet coil pack?

As above,do no harm to take the pack off and clean the lot with wd and a rag Mine is out all its life and i had to clean and dry the coil pack about 6 moths back, its been fine since so they can live in the rain and snow LOL

I had quite a substantial misfire and it turned out to water in the coil pack. If there is water in there then clear it all out and the misfire should stop. I would then advise you go and buy an engine cover! Fixed the problem for me! thumbsup

Thanks all. Have cleaned the coil pack and top of plugs - no water in there but clear signs that has been some in one of the plug recesses at some point. Just been for a few miles and she seems to be running ok - MIL light is still on but I've left fuse 8 out so hope that clears it. ref the engine cover - there is a fairly basic cover attached to the bonnet, which looks like it should deflect rain off the top of the engine - is this what people mean by an engine cover or is there a more substantial version? Yep, that'll be the OEM rain deflector.

Might need to invest in 1 of these too- come out of work today after a heavy shower and on drive home under medium throttle car starts to misfire.
