Right...the boss wants a new car... My boss currently has a Boxster but his intention had always been to move on to a 911. He has owned the Boxster for about 18months which is good going for him - it's normally only 6-12 months with any car. However, in that time a couple of other people in the company have treated themselves to 911's of various models and he says there's now too many in the carpark to get one as well. It's a nice problem to have! Before the Boxster was an S2000 but an Elise had been on the cards and I think he needs to scratch that Lotus itch...this time around with an Evora. He rates not seeing many (any) on the roads and it being the Loti alternative to a 911. Reviews can be mixed, but he'll soon enough get himself to a showroom and out for a test drive. I've seen articles of press cars being delivered for weekend loans only not to work. The reliability could be a worry - he lift shares and has a Golf as another option so it won't be used everyday, but the commute is 70miles each way (split mainly motorway then country lanes). The Boxster gets a healthy percentage of miles as put on the Golf and we're not sure how the Evora could handle that. So.. what do you guys reckon to the Evora? Things to look out for (wouldn't be brand new)? Alternatives? The Noble M12 momentarily came on the list but that could be too raw and dangerous on that mileage! I couldn't ignore a Vantage if I was lucky enough to be looking at that level of car. What else is out there? thumbsup

Am v8 vantage. Have to say the shed of an evora we have at the office has been 100% reliable bar the weak battery.

Not really looked into it but don't you have to service them every 13 miles? Not my cuppa really, I'd rather take the Evora even if it's comparatively slow.

GTR is awesome, but ugly as ferk too and out of the running. I'm pointing him towards some R8's but that could be pushing the budget. Current standings could be Evora then Vantage .

Cheers guys! The looks of the Evora has the wife's approval but added requirement of being able to fit a young child in the back means the Vantage is out. A DB9 would be too 'big'. Surprised the XKR hasn't come up in conversation at work yet - definitely something to look at. I suspect M3's and RS6's are no-go's as he's owned an M3 in the past with no mention of wanting another and I imagine the RS6 (despite how incredible it would be) will go down as a beefed up family car when he wants a coupe.

Suzuki Whizzkid. 100% certain there won't be another in the carpark, so immensely exclusive. Also has the classic rear engine layout like the 911s. He may have an issue with the image though?

Well today I have driven a 997 911, and and Evora. How fortunate... Without a shadow of a doubt, it would be the 911 every time for me. The Lotus does get more looks, but it feels a lot cheaper (and I mean a LOT) to sit in, drive and operate. Not in the same league in my opinion. It's not helped that the Evora I have is the new IPS auto, but even with a manual I could hardly think to compare them. G
