Sorry to revive an (excellent) old thread, but was wondering what the options are for rear brake upgrades?  The various options for front upgrades are well documented here and elsewhere but there is less info on the rears.  I gather it is possible to fit the standard front calipers onto the rear, but then wouldn't you lose the handbrake function?   Obviously you can change the discs/pads etc but was wondering if there are any upgraded rear calipers that allow you to keep the handbrake (and hence pass an MOT)?   Thanks!

If you fit the standard front calipers to the rear, then you can fit spot calipers to the rear for the handbrake. Think they wwere sold by Steffen on here?

Am I right in thinking that the standard rear calipers have the handbrake function built in to them, with no seperate spot caliper required? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

  Yes

Cool, thanks for confirming. So next question is whether there are any upgraded calipers for the rear that retain the integrated handbrake? Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

What 'upgrade' do you want? Are you also upgrading the fronts? Ask SteveA about rear brakes doing too much work. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

I have the original 2 pots on the ear and ny original rears are just a handbrkae caliper... a bit heavy.. but it does the trick The fronts have 4 pots on. Ive actually thought about putting a bias valve in to give me slightly more rear brakinv to help turn in. But thats on the bottom of a very long list.

OEM caliper setup in full working order and decent pads / fluid based on your usage more than upto the job Specific lotus AP 4 pot with matched pistons god upgrade I fitted generic AP 4 pot kit and front oem 2 pots on the rears for someone before and was not keen on the extra travel of pedal and not sure you would ever gain from them on the road I used to track my old vx220 a lot and was far from std, CL pads of the time, decent fluid never faded and good road manners.......far cheaper option 😉 DG

Am looking to go for 4 pots at the front (the APs most likely) and then something to keep up at the rear, probably with an uprated master cylinder to avoid too much pedal travel and a brake bias valve to give adjustment as required.

Will also need to figure out what to do with the ABS, but keen to get the mechanicals lined up first.

2 pot, 4 pot, this or that pad, grooved, drilled, cross drilled... The discs from some German Tuners are a real beauty and in fantastic anodised alu hearts, but,

the brake discs of the VX are the same as the vectra V6, ± 1500kg minimum for that car, 50% more

good pads always do the trick,

it has been written quit often on this forum....it's all about good driving skills

I learned that I had none. :D
