I know most of you guys will cry for the wolf/crazy but is there a roof rack or trunk rack available ? (àla TT or 911) ?
Just like to be able to drive down to the seaside for two weeks vacation with a little more than a bathing suit.
Like a surfboard for example...
Then take the rack off at arrival and enjoy the car while being there.

Taipan,
Try this url
Vauxhall Boot Rack
Why anybody would pay nearly £500GBP for this is beyond me, also you have to have 2 round mounting discs permantly in place. Oh and I reckon the boot spoiler of the VXT might mean it does not fit.

Gee... that's very expensive indeed and doesn't seem to have a large capacity (no room for the Surfboard to play the beach boy here ;-)
But thanks for the lead !

taipan, its in situations like yours that the often-derided 'lifestyle' cars come into their own. RAV4s etc were absolutely MADE to carry surfboards/MTBs etc.
I can't imagine it would be easy to carry a surfboard unless you put it on the passenger seat through the roof and fastened the seatbelt !!

Purebob, true, true...
But I just pictured two small bars for the roof (might need the hard-top) so when I go to the beach with one of the gang-members (50kg dog or lady
) I can take the board along for the 2 miles-drive.
And after that, enjoy a neat cabriolet sport car on the seaside roads at sunset, yummy !
(as opposed to the big Passat
)

I've seen a Boxster with one on - it was a proper roofrack over the hood, not a boot mounted one. Not sure where it was mounted but the guy had the softop on at the time.

Note to self.
Must design one of these little buggers.
A number of people want them now.
Skiers, Boarders and Surfers alike.

If one of those existed that didn't require permanent mods to the bodywork (like the rear carrier) then I would certainly look into it, despite it looking a bit naff. Would pretty much mean I could use the VX for (almost) everything...
How about a modified softtop with fixings in the side rails.

The Speedster on display at the model launch at the Geneva Motor Show was wrecked by someone holding on to the windscreen frame when exiting the car. Opel dealers specifically warn people not to do that because it's a known weak spot, so I don't think additionally loading it with some sort of roof-rack would be a good idea.
BTW, was talking to the Opel guy who was in charge of the Speedster at this year's Geneva Show. Having learned from bitter experience, they kept the top on at first but then hardly anyone dared to try getting in the car in full view of everyone and making an exhibition of themselves. So, they removed the top and all the punters started piling into the car. One 70 year-old lady was not able to get out again, and had to be manhandled from the car.
