Okay,
Planning on having the VXT remapped when I put it back on the road in April.
So, before I hand it over to DG for MOT'ing, mapping and a few other bits and bobs I'm planning to service it with oil, filter and plugs (cambelt done last year)

As it's going to be stage 2, what plugs should i be using. I know they should be Iridium ones, but what number?

7's like these
http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649

or 6's ike these
http://www.ebay.co.u...=item19cca1afca

And if anyone knows of a place that will do a set of four cheaper, please spill the beans!
Actually, on that note - where's cheapest for filter and sump plug? Last year I ordered from Courtenay but sure they're not as cheap as some others.

Cheers,
G

Thought it was 5's for Stage 2? 6/7's for 280 / 300 bhp? I wait to be corrected tho!

I fitted NGK Part number: 6341 - BKR5EIX to my standard VXT. Made a great improvement to the running. I bought form ebay seller "race..parts", best deal was on 4x individual plug at 4.49 each...with combined postage came to a total of £21.92. IMO a great deal!

From what I can work out Simon, 5's are for standard. TBF CMS also suggest the fives are ok for tuned cars too, but DG told me to look for either six or sevens.

Thanks Rob. I guess I'll be getting myself some sixes then. Thought the sevens might be too cold for a stg2 tune anyway.

So, anyone got any pointers for the oil filter and sump plug other than CMS?

The range is 5 to 9 and should be scaled to the amount of heat your engine will regularily produce. I range up NGK approx 1 year ago and ask some heavy questions to a really helpfull and technical guy. Based on that info, only go for the 7s if you regularily drive at full beans a lot. Otherwise go for 6s. If you buy plugs with too big a number and dont make enough heat you will end up carboning up your electrodes which in turn leads to a poor spark and flame wave. This leads to reduced power and/or spluttering and poor startup etc etc.

I used to run 8's but it was always getting punished ;) Graeme as per conversation 6 or 7 will be spot on and as Nev points out depending on how you drive / how much heat they get reg DG

Thanks for the info Nev. Confirms what I thought I knew from many years of tuned Saab turbos.

Dunc,
think I'll go for the sixes. Yes it gets driven hard on the occasions I take it out, but I'm not always driving on track etc so 7's probably overkill.

Will get them, plus some oil and filter etc ordered up ASAP.
:poke: let me know about cost of other bits we spoke about when you do please mate.

I have used autovaux in the past. very helpful. http://www.autovaux.co.uk/

Also I thought most stage 2's change the plugs anyway as part of the package?

at least check the gaps, in case you get the BKR*EIX-11 , which are 1.1mm gap
