Does anyone know the purpose of this little grub screw? Mine appears to be leaking brake fluid everywhere.
It seems to me it's there to lock the handbrake mechinism in place? How do I stop it leaking because if I tighten it the handbrake lever wont move?
(I'm just tacking a bit of a refurb in time for the MOT)

This one?

Normally that's stuck solid, so if it's loose on your caliper then perhaps someone has refurbished it?
It's purpose is to secure the handbrake mechanism in the bore:
The 'foot' of the handbrake mechanism as shown here:

Has a cutout which fits over the grub screw when it's fully installed.
What you could probably do is remove the brake pads, screw the piston back in and then while turning try to get the grub screw inserted all the way. May take some tries as you're rotating the whole assembly and you need to get it to slot into the cutout as it passes the grub screw opening.
Bye, Arno.

Ah good man I understand and that makes sense about the notch.
The whole story is, I left it with my local garage for a service. Two days later I'm quite sure the service hasn't been done but he had 'tinkered' with the caliper to help it through the impending MOT. It's been leaving fluid on my drive for a week now which I thought was oil. It turns out it's that grub screw and brake fluid.
That's done the trick, cheers Arno. Now to get it back together before dark.
How did you get those pictures up? Mine didn't appear.

These are linked from another site. Seems a bit hit-and-miss if it works though

Bye, Arno.

Thanks again Arno. I would have never have fathomed that by myself.
I managed to do partial caliper rebuild to both sides, discs and pads. No all I need is the torx bit size on the front AP calipers so I can get those discs off too?
I'm still rather peeved by my garage giving me my car back leaking brake fluid and missing a wheel nut. Not to mention the usual under-tray bolts missing. Grr another story.
