I have a couple of questions regarding the Pro Alloy pre-rad install on a NA VX220 (now supercharged) I have have finally got round to fitting the pre-rad to the rad cowling, the car already has a Pro Alloy rad fitted. It is my understanding that the inlet/outlet from the pre-rad exit on the off side and are canted up to give the pipes clearence on the wheel arch liner. I have fitted it up to the rad cowl/housing all well and good BUT the rad cowling/housing will not sit down properly on the crash structure at the back edge. The reason for this is that the twin Spal fans are fouling the back edge of the crash structure. The fans are off-set towards the rear edge of the pre-rad. It looks to me like the fans are offset the wrong way, if thay were offset towards the front of the pre-rad they would clear the rear lip of the crash structure and the rad cowling/housing. It therefore looks like the fan brackets are welded on back to front............ Now, if the pre-rad was turned throught 180 degrees with the inlet/outlet on the near side the fans would clear the crash structure and it'd all fit OK. So, the questions are. Does the VX220 collective think that the fan brackets are on the wrong way around? If thay are and I choose not to send the pre-rad back can I run the pipes through the N/S sill? I have looked at the fitting guide bit can't see from the pics what I need to see to make a good judgemant call on it. Pics to follow. Chaz.

Which side do you have the pipes exiting? Some are designed to exit driver side and some pass side.

This is mine.

The red is where the fans foul the crash structure.

If they do a version with the outlets on the N/S it looks like it's the one I have ot they just welded the brackets on the wrong way.
I prefer not to re-drill the rad cowl/housing (too messey) to reverse it and send the pipes down the N/S sill.

Chaz.

The newer ones have the pipes exit on the pax side. So have you tried rotating it round?

standard is so that you have pipes run down the drivers side if you request you can have modified ones so pipes run down the passenger side the cc radiator you have looks like a modified one to run pipes down passenger side

Thanks chaps, I was coming to that conclusion. The thing is that I already have the sill cover off on the O/S, the pax side seems to be solidly stuck down and I'm afraid i'll tear it if I try to pull it off.......... I was ment to have the lot done today.................. Chaz.

What are the positives/negatives of running down the passenger side vs the drivers side?

Drivers side sill has the engine coolant pipes that could heat the charge cooler circuit.

driverside means running 2 x pipes right next to the belt, also the heater pipe runs allong there so could heat the cc pipes up with the heater pipe plus pax side means shorter pipework and alot more room for the pump etc

Thanks for the replys chaps. I'll be going down the passenger side sill with the pipework. I have re-mounted the pre-rad and it all looks good so far. MOT on Sat morning and still a lot to do............... Chaz.
