Well finally it's not raining in Northampton and there is a strange bright orange light in the sky so today is the day to sort my front light out. Like many, i have fogged up front and some nice green stuff growing in there too so my plan is to take it off, dry it overnight in the airing cupboard and clean it with some form of cloth on a stick through the light apertures. I don't want to do the oven thing to break the seals so instead I'm going to add a layer of waterproofing along the seam. What do folks suggest for this? I'm thinking some form of clear sealant similar to bathroom sealant but stronger.

Don't use clar sealant - use a black sealant (can bought bought at a pet shop which supply fish tank supplies. If you use a clear sealant you run the risk of softening the sealant that is already there and the clear bleeding through - would look shocking on the light cluster. Made the same mistake on my first MG.

My rears were the same, I stuck them under an upturned bin along with a small dehumidifier over 2 days as the foam strips were soaked! Agreed on the black stuff, I used black bathroom sealant, just take your time and don't leave any gaps or you'll be doing it all again lol.

Have the lens out now, but can't see a way to get 'inside' to get to clean it. It's sat in the airing cupboard and will stay there for the next day or so to clear it. Then I'll have a go at re sealing it. Is it worth cutting off the old and very hard sealant first or do you guys think it would be better just to add to it. On top of my woes, my indicator which I thought had blown hasn't and it's a loose connection near the bulb I'm not sure what to do with that one!

All done, the sealant is designed for an aquarium so perfect for the uk in May. As I've got it out I decided to strip down and re solder the indicator light connections. I'm glad I did as they were badly corroded at the connector. Daftly I cut the wires before making a note as to which one went where. I think the black one went to the central connector and the white to the side. If anyone could confirm this - or indeed if it makes a difference either way - I'd be grateful. Cheers J

I did mine this week. I used black silicone from B&Q. I masked the edges of clear covers and ran a bead all the way round. I also changed the M8 nylock nuts to wing nuts to make removal far easier when I need to change bulbs in the future. I was also amazed to find that the leveling adjusters stil work and hadn't seized.

I like the wing nut mod. Makes perfect sense. What thread or diameter do I need to get at b&queue?
