Hi all, Looking for some advice/feedback. Just bought a 2003 VX220 Turbo with a bit of a sketchy service history and am keen on giving to Vauxhall (Aberdeen) to carry out a major service (what they refer to as a four year service). I have also asked for the gearbox oil to be changed. My thinking is that this will also cover any recall's etc if there were/are any outstanding. I have been quoted £520.00 for the major service (including gearbox oil change which I dont think has been done). What are your experiences of major services and costs for these? Is this high? Any help would be really appreciated before I commit. Cheers!

I'm not sure the vauxhall dealer is the best place to take a vx220 to for a service anything

That actually sounds pretty reasonable to me, as I guess that's the cambelt change as well. Whether I'd trust them to even know how to jack the car up is a whole different matter........

Can vouch for this. Vauxhall bolted the bonnet catch upside down when they did mine, trapping the mechanism making it impossible to open. They then broke the lever trying to force it so gave it back to me without mentioning it. Wasn't the one in Aberdeen though so good luck.

Is this to replace the water pump as well? Ask them for a list of things they will do....just to ensure you've got everything covered in that price. That price, on the face of it sounds okay for a stealer.

Price does sound right but as mentioned be wary of Vaux dealers. Sure someone from up your way will come along to point out a specialist to use thumbsup

Hi, better to register on Scottishelises.com. The folks on there will give you good advice on where to take your car in the Aberdeen area. A lot do use Murray Motors in Edinburgh.(Lotus dealer with a great reputation).

I'm looking at the moment and was quoted £260 by a Vauxhall dealer for MOT and major service on my NA. Best price I've got from an independent is £225 but still looking. That's Newcastle Gateshead area.

Main thing to watch on an n/a in servicing is plugs - other than that there is nothing on a major service for an n/a you can't do on the drive with basic tools (plugs are easy too so long as the person before hasn't overtightened).

Lets not forget we are talking about servicing an engine which can be found in vectras astras and zafiras. I have had all but one service done by vauxhall. I had my cambelt changed at horizon motorsport when they were around. The most important thing is to get to know the service manager and deal with them direct. Not all dealerships had trained techs on the.vx. Check out if the dealership was one of those chosen to sell vx. Ask if the vx tech is still working there. The vxl place I use still has the tech working there. He has been servicing my vx since 2001. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
