I have been looking at www.mytyres.co.uk for a couple of rear tyres.

My current tyres are:

- Bridgestone Potanza RE 040, 225/45/R17/90V, K0001 E040BZ

Please can you tell me which you would go for:

- Bridgeston Potenza RE 040, 225/45 R17 90W = £102.10
- Bridgestone Potenza RE 040, 225/45 R17 91Y = £103.80

I'm not sure about the 90/91 numbers... http://www.bridgesto...lbum/AP_206.pdf says it relates to the load index so I assume either are okay?

Thanks.

The letters at the end (V, W, Y) is the speed index for the tyres they indicate the maximum speed allowed for that tyre. A "V" means a maximum speed of 240 km/h which is enough for the vx220 NA. The vx220 turbo needs a tyre with a W index. I belive the Y is for even higher speeds. With this in mind anyone of the tyres are OK. Not familiar with the load index numbers but i don't think yo need to worry about this on such a light car as the vx. Its probably only important for those big and heavy high preformance cars

Details are here check the last post.

You need a 90V rated tyre for the NA, 90W for the Turbo. But you need to check the DOT code too, to be absolutely sure.

But you need to check the DOT code too, to be absolutely sure.

There's rafts of info kicking around on here about all the right codes to look for (BZ/CJC etc...).

Ive checked the tyres out on my car... the fronts are still the original and ive just replaced the rears... Ive looked at garyk220's link from this topic.... o/s rear - K0002 E040BZ - 225/45 R17 91Y - DOT EJH-CFE-0804 n/s rear - K0001 E040BZ - 225/45 R17 91Y (i'll confirm the rest tommorow!! as i'll have to jacjk the car up!!) o/s front - K0001 E040BZ - 175/55 R17 81V - DOT EJRT - CFE - 3601 n/s front - K0001 E040BZ - 175/55 R17 81V Does anyone know what the K letter and number is all about??? I now realise I have Y rated tyres which are meant for the VXT (CFE....), but as i got both rears for £198 fitted & balanced... sounds like it was a good price!! have to make the car go faster now!! :D Ive just realised, the fronts are still the original and they are CFE???? VXT tyres?? my cars the N/A!! Comments?? Cheers Nick

Checked all tyres again...

The fronts are what came on the car from new...

n/s front - K0001 E040BZ 175/55 R17 81V DOT EJRT CFE 3701

o/s front - K0001 E040BZ 175/55 R17 81V DOT EJRT CFE 3601

n/s rear - K0001 E040BZ 225/45 R17 91Y DOT EJH8 CFE 0804

o/s rear - K0002 E040BZ 225/45 R17 91Y DOT EJH8 CFE 0804

It looks like i have the VXT (91Y) rears... and N/A fronts (81V) so the CFE code could meen something else??

Whats the difference in the K0001 & K0002???? and the number after the CFE is that relevant or is that just a batch number??

When i bought the rears i just went with what the tyre place said... ' is it for a vx220 '....)

Hope we can sort this for people wanting to buy the correct bridgestone tyre for there VXT / N/A as its a tad confusing!! :beat:

Cheers

Got some info from Bridgestone....

Andy Daniels is the guys name... 01926 488580 thumbsup

The correct O.E tyres for both 2.2 & VXT are as follows..

Fronts - RE040BZ 175/55 R17 - 81W DOT CAD (DOT CFE/ DOT CJC is old stock...)

Rears - RE040BZ 225/45 R17 - 90W DOT CFE (DOT CJC is old stock)

As you can see the speed rating has changed from a V to a W for the N/A....Andy has assured me now that this tyre is the O.E for both cars now!!

Hope this clears a few things up!!

The rears i have on are RE040BZ 225/45 R17 91Y DOT EJH8 CFE 0804 are for an Audi TT :beat: :beat:

Cheers

Nick

I just bought 2 new rears from protyre Exeter. They called Bridgestone and came up with that info too, about the changed rating to W. Managed to find me 2 V rating , Dot CJC tyres though - guess these may be old stock now then. By the way, asked to watch them fit tyres - they weren't too chuffed, but had I not been there were about to jack up at corners as opposed to one side at a time at stickered jacking points :o .... so go watch, and make sure they get the jacking right - don't think they get many vx's in these parts! Paid 210 for the 2 fitted and balanced. Tim
