Has anyone got any experience of using Hispec 4 or 6 pot brakes please? No hearsay, general misinformation or my friend's friend friend had some on his Nova back in 1987... etc etc please!

I have some. Ex Cliffie. The calipers are very good quality for the money. The adaptors less so, you bolt into shallow ally threads which just isnt cricket. Remade them with steel bushings. I inherited Pagid blue pads. Horribly screatchy graunchy road pad but awesome fast road or track. The pistons are bigger than stock area, this made the braking too front biased. Locking a front was common. I worked out FTR brackets were the answer, with slightly less bitey cl5+ pads. Now its got great balance and really stops again and again.Oh...these are ultralites btw.

Heard of problems relating to piston dust seals failing within 2 years, leading to piston corrosion. Depends on usage, so for track use mainly with frequent service / inspection they may be ok.

I gather mine are at least that old. The seals are spot on. - The pistons too, this being all that really mattered to me. They cosmetically corrode quite fast, so maybe not ideal fot JG. Summary:- Great value track brakes. Several pro class cars had em btw.

I just don't understand how they're incapable of improving the seals. All I've seen for 10 years are complaints about either the lack of seals altogether or the fact that they're ineffective. HiSpec's bigger problem is their customer service and awful record on delivering things when they say they will.

Thanks for the usefull feedback John, would you mind PMing me your mobile so I could give you a ring sometime and have a chat please? What calipers have you moved to on the front then Cliffie, and are they better? Persumably if the HiSpec ones have passed hands a few times to/from you there is a reason...

Cliffie moved onto the ap racing 4 pots nev. I remember talking to him in his work car park about them and he said they were a knightmare, nothing but problems. Not sure if he still has them nev but pm robin as he was selling ap 4 pot calipers rather cheap. Then there was a link somewhere I think from mr simba reference cheap 308mm discs Hope that helps

Luke is partially right, I did have a run of bad luck with them but when they worked, they were great. I passed them over to John after my last disaster when a thread stripped on the mounting blocks and that was my last straw. Knowing I was planning Time Attack, I decided to go for the AP four pot, direct bolt on for reliability sake.

Nope, that was a different set and it was rears. It was on a car I believe Partridge was driving at the time of said fire. The only connection with me is that I grabbed a fire extinguisher to put it out.

Surely Sh*t is by it's very nature inconsistent, different day, different sh*t. How would you get reliable results each time you did the test, have you any data on this?
