I have to travel down to Reading & Southampton the week after next and wil want to avoid motorways as much as possible as I travel backward and forwards. Can any locals guys recommend some good VX driving roads?

There are a few really good roads in Hampshire, but most of them don't go "from" Reading to Southampton. This is probably the most direct non-motorway route, although if you are feeling more adventurous this has the A339 in it from Basingstoke to Alton which is a great road. Or you can head down through the Candovers which is a bit smaller roads, but they are a hoot. All of these will add around 40 minutes to the journey time compared to just the motorway slog. The M3 is boring as hell though!

Sadly I don't think I would have time. Travelling down Friday to Reading for a curry and beers, Saturday morning carry on to Southampton for a day catching up and some wedding business. Travel home Sunday.
I will be down longer for the wedding in Sept so how about a rain check?
