I have recently got hold of a VSE back box, tomorrow I am going to attempt to change them over.... Having not owned my Vx long I've never even attempted dismantling it. Any tips? Cheers, Ed

Get the swearbox ready thumbsup Get the WD40 on the bolts before you try and undo them, let them soak.

You need to remove the cat section to take the back box out. Plenty of WD-40 on the bolts, particularly on the manifold side as there's a danger of cracking it. Leave it to soak in, remove the cat section (you can leave the Lamda sensor connectors attached), then take the backbox out.

First the rear diffuser needs to come off, and having the rear of the car on a ramp will help. The backbox cannot get out, before the cat section is out. Cat is bolted (rust) to the end box with 3 bolts via the u-bend, and to the exhaust manifold with 3 bolts. If OEM, you could get the bolts to the manifold out via the underside with a large extention. The cat section has 2 lambda probes, that need to be out first. Disconnect the plugs, and then carefully get them out (wiring can be brittle due to heat, and they can break) Once the cat is out, you have a clear sight of the back box, and it should be all logical from there on. Rusted bolts and broken lambda wires will be your biggest challange in this one. Good luck with it. :tt:

I fitted my VSE a few weeks ago, I had to cut the U bend to get the old back box out because the nuts were so rusty

You need to remove the cat section to take the back box out.

Not so, there is enough flex in the rear clam to do it with the cat in place. True it is easier with the cat off, but if the bolts are seized on the cat to manifold then it is far easier to take it out with the cat in place than try and cut those bolts.
