I hacked apart a set of logitec surround speakers from a 5.1 computer system. they are good quality full range speakers that fit perfectly in the vent hole so its easy to put back to standard.

I have an ideal set in the shed.. inPhase and they just required a small amount cut around the edge of the vent. I have some pictures kicking around of my trial fit on a spare dash.

I'm in the process of fitting some 4" into my dash, they do however require the metal insert ring that the vent screws into to be cut out, I'll get some pics up later

Fitting 10cm front speakers was one of the best things I did for the daily pleasure of my last VX. I highly recommend it and I'll be adding them into my new car very soon.

so doing some chopping is a must then by the looks of it, mine has recently been recovered in alcantara so bit reluctant to hack away too much if im honest.

I didn't have to chop the top at all to fit the 3.5" in phase speakers - just cut some plywood into the underside of the dash to give the speakers a solid mounting point

Yeah, I kept the outside section of the air vent to make it look tidier, which is identical to the speaker diameter.

In phase are pretty good, I wouldn't look anywhere else.

out of interest has anyone put speakers into the plastic cubby holes by the seal, looks like there is just about room for 3.5 speakers.

Only on the Tubby though. I tried to find something that would fit into the NA 'coin trays' and virtually nothing capable of producing enough volume (or range of frequencies) would fit.

What about under the dash maybe? Or in the footwells?

Tried that aswell... But the reflected sound just didn't sound right.

Had some mid/bass underneath the dash and it filled the sound out nicely with the turbo front pockets and their integrated tweeters. Somebody on here used to make MDF mounting baffles that screwed in to existing mounting holes and would take a 5" (I think it was) speaker. Just binned the mids a few weeks back as I got p!ssed off with them getting in the way of me getting some cables through the loom grommet to the front compartment.

That looks really neat how you've installed those.

This also sounds like a good solution. Where abouts under the dash did you have them?

Cheers.

Been thinking and browsing the web today while watching the gp, and found these... http://www.online-ca...=onlinecaraudio How about those with on dash against the windscreen or in footwells (depending on size). I don't think audio is really ever going to work well in a VX, but it could be a relatively cheap and simple install for some front end fill???
