My car has Gaz coilovers. I was told entry level Gaz... Are these Gaz Golds or something else?? They are currently set quite hard. 6 clicks from fully stiff in the rear, not sure on the fronts. This is perfect on track but quite stiff for the road. I'm gonna have a play but any recommended set ups people run? For example should they be set the same front and rear to begin with??

looking on here i kept reading that the backs should be about four clicks harder than the front. I've got 4 at the front 8 at the rear. These were already fitted when I got the car, so not sure on factory comfort, mine seem a little harsh also.

Your settings are really harsh, I use something similar on track but way to hard for me on the road. My road settings are 10 from soft on the rear, 12 from soft on the front. This actually feels a bit softer than the stock billies so not to everyones taste. They are Gaz Nickels by the way.

Cheers guys. I'll try your settings Phil and can always stiffen up if needed. Needs to be a bit softer than it is for road as you can even feel the painted lines on the road. Lol

Hi, Bear in mind that shock absorbers are there to stop the springs oscillating. They are not there to reduce roll or anything like that. Therefore for track use very stiff springs/anti roll bars are required to stop roll with sticky tyres NOT stiff damping. Why not do an internet search on how race teams set up shock absorbers? I am sure they would tell a totally different story to amateurs like us mere mortals using this site. Kind regards, Paul

Phear is almost on the mark, for me anyway. 10 on the front and 11 on the rear, thats 10 and 11 clicks back from hard. Mine are gold. Ive done 2 trips all the way to the ring with this setting then I make it firmer once there. Any softer and you get serious bounce, almost uncontrollable on some roads :( I have 450 front and 550 rear springs.

Don't forget, some gaz shocks have more total clicks than others, so a someones setting may not be true for yours, plus, play with setting to get a good feel for your own style of driving. I run Dry : Front 9 Rear 17 (Spoiler up) F:425 R:475 F:16"AD08/R17"AD08 F:110/R:120 340r track Geo (different for wet track)

If your settings are good now for track, make a note of them and just turn them down until your happy with how they feel.

Weirdly I think you should have more damping on the road than a track as it will be more bumpy?

Ive got the entry level Gaz's and I had to go quite soft to get rid of the "bounce". It tried some harder recommended settings and every time I hit something in the road, it was like I was getting feedback oscillation in the springs (not sure if that makes sense). I think going a lot harder also got rid of this but it was like having no suspension at all, probably great for the track :-) Maybe there is a mid point where the springs have a natural vibration point, or I might be talking rubbish here ? I seem to remember ive got 9 clicks (front) and 12 (rear) from soft now. Still harder than the stock Billy's but a lot more control But it may be a case of playing with settings until your happy.

The dampers also control the speed at which the spring compresses and expands. The harder your dampers the less bump gets absorbed by the springs before being transferred to the chassis. Also this controls the pitching of the car under braking and the weight shift when going from on direction turn to another such as a chicane.
