I have spent most of the evening trying to set up my new gaz gold II shocks and im struggling to find a setting I am happy with. I have them at 120F and 130R ride heights which im happy with however, damping is some what more of a challenge.... I have tried the following and all made the car feel like a pogo stick, I wouldnt say bumpy due to the stiffness more of a bouncy feel: 8/12 12/14 16/18 18/20 11/17 Then I tried going softer and found that it felt better 4/6 ok 5/7 not as good 4/7 not as good 5/6 ok 4/5 ok Its currently set up at 4/5 from full soft (out of 20) and although it feels ok im not convinced I should be running them this low, I have only drove it around the estate so far too so only 15-20mph. So need to take it out and see how it feels at speed Anyone got any suggestions as im fed up of playing with it now and have called it a night?

On track I ran 10 from hard on the rears and 8 from hard on the fronts. For pure road I would try 15 from hard rear and 13 from hard front. Always run the front two clicks harder.

Do my entry level Gazs have a different number of clicks from soft to hard than Gaz golds? Or are they all the same?

Had a little run and on 4/5 it seemed smooth/handled well etc however, under heavy breaking it had a horrible stuttering noise come from the front shocks, on the way home I changed it to 7/5 from soft or as above from hard and the breaking issue was solved but I have a bit of a bouncy feel again, not a lot but it is there.

Parked it up for now so will have another play one evening later this week :)

Cheers for the help Mike, have to say it does feel planted on the corners now no body roll thumbsup just need to get the dampers to a happy setting now

Mike also has monotubes so will be different. What sort of thing are you looking for on the road? What ever setting you use it should be better than the billies.

I was quoting GGP settings Chris, that is what I ran mine on when I had GGP's on my car.

Give it time to let the shocks settle and adjust one click at a time till you are happy and remember the settings as you will change them for track and you will want to know what to put them back to.

Same number of clicks I think as it should be the same valve assembly.

I thought it should be harder at the back as the car is heavier at the back? Or have I been mis informed? (plus i prefer the over-steery characteristics of the harder rear)

I have GGP's and I run 5/7 (from soft). You do get a bouncy feel if you bring the damping rates closer. I started at 7/7 and it was bloody awful.

6 from hard rear and 9 from hard front for me. Both track and road but its not ideal for the road.

Having a harder front will cause more understeer / a softer rear will cause the end to stay planted and not break away as easy. But general rule of thumb is yes you have a slightly softer front than back to help the front end bite into a corner. Ideally you want to set the rear up first and get that sweet spot where when you accellerate your getting the least ammount of slip from the tyres and then you dial the front in to suit your over/understeer preference.

BoT track have been doing their damper setup with harder front than rears for at least the 3 years since I last visited. They'd found that worked better through trial and error on MaxR's car.
