So before I got to excited about a VX220, I decided it would be a good idea to check the size of the car against the garage, a big thanks to Ratboiler for popping over with his car thumbsup. The good news is it fits! :D The bad news is I have got no hope of getting out! :( Also, the rev-limiters motorbike won't fit behind it during the winter months. Now, the last one I think I can over come with a bigger shed in the back garden, or a mates garage just around the corner where my lives in the winter. But the first one is a bit more of an issue, I can either: 1) Leave it on the drive with a cover on it 2) Dukes of hazard style over the top of the door 3) Get out on the drive and push it in Anybody else around with a single garage and how do you get on? TIA Martin

Only real solution is to move house....joke!

My last house had a single garage but even though was a new build house it was a good size. I could get in/out either side and space at the back for a workbench.

What you can do though is get out outside then push it in and lean in and pull the handbrake. Or chock the wheels.

My old one :)

Before driving the car into the garage I roll up the softop halfway back to the first roof spar on the passenger side.
Then I park in the garage as close as possible on the drivers side to the wall, exiting on the passengers side, rolling the softop back into position once out.
A piece of carpet on the wall on the passengers side stops me bashing the door on the brickwork thumbsup

Pray each time you enter and exit that you dont scuff the mirrors/back/front. Also fit some buffers on your walls where the doors will open. I always get out of the passenger side once I've reversed it in. They are actually quite compact once in,good luck with it, you'll find a way!

I think some sort of rolling floor set up would be your best bet or maybe you could buy something like these. http://www.cjautos.o...document&part=5
You could make some grooves or tracks on the floor with stoppers at the back to keep the car aligned, drive the car onto the wheel dollys infront of the garage and then push in. That might not be the ideal product but something which adopts the same principle should work well with a bit of imagination.

Carpet on the walls park tight on the ns wind window down. Worked for me for the last 10 years after watching vocky change my cam chain in his garage Which is the same size as mine. I now have realised just how much space i don't need. I've just made up 2 wooden ramps that are 25mm high! Now my cheapo halfrauds jack slides straight under........

My garage is a bit smaller than the one posted above. All I can say is it keeps me limber! I can get my door open about 16 inches or so. To get out I have to spin round in the seat, reach out to the wall, grab the rear clam and haul all 14 1/2 stone of me out of the car. Get a shed to stick the bike in, The VX really does need to be in a garage in the winter if you can get it in.

Depends what you're starting with. If you have bought one thats been outside, leave it outside but to get one that has lived in a garage and then stick it outside it will deteriorate rapidly!

Thanks guys. I was unsure if I was doing the right thing by selling the Westfield (the current toy) for a VX, but the fact I was a bit p*ssed by the VX possibly not fitting has sort of told me all I need to know. Cocopops, I wish it was an old garage, it's just your average tight arse modern builders spec single. To call it a garage against the average modern car is a joke, I don't even think the Mondeo would fit through the door!

My garage fits this desciption. I had a megane 225 and that filled up the entire floorspace. I could just get out and only just by a couple of CM close the door! There are techniques to getting out of the VX and in truth I make it more difficult than it needs to be by keeping the hardtop on all the time.

I roll the roof half way, drive in. Wind down the window, pull my self up and stand on the seat, step over the door, roll the roof back over, open the door a fraction to do the window back up and job done, like a glove and nice and dry.

Its p*ss easy mate, I have a tight single garage. Drive the car into the garage, open door very slightly and take note where the door is going to hit the wall, drive out and screw a large thick bit of foam to that part of the wall. Drive back in and open the door onto the foam and get out... Even press the door onto the foam it will be fine :) done this for years
