I've just chcked my charge cooler coolant ready for a trackday on the 13th.

80mm from the very bottom of the tank. (or about 90mm from the very top lip of the tank)

The bottom of return flow pipe is about 120mm from the bottom of the tank.

So am I right in thinking it needs topping up till it's just below there? Or is this ok?

If it needs topping up, do I just use 50/50 water/coolant mix or is it something different?

Thanks

Matt

Guessing if it is just a small top up I can just use water rather than faf with mixing? It's quite an orange colour so I'm guessing it'll need changing at some point. How often do people usually change it?

I'd say you want as much coolant in the system as possible, this will give it more thermal inertia and make the system more effective for longer. You only want as much antifreeze/additive in there as you need to stop it from freezing.

Mine is the blue stuff FWIW. Last time Lee and I over filled it to above the inlet hose but he seemed to think it didn't matter. I just use straight coolant to top up if needs be

Don't know what coolant is in there though as it was in there when I bought it. Didn't think it wise to mix coolant.

I always top mine up to the max to the ensure I don't get any air trapped in the system and regularly prime the pump outlet to check the flow pressure

I just used the same coolant as the engine coolant. I think I probably used too high a mix ration initially (like 40/60 - coolant / water) but at least this should mean I have no issues with freezing come winter time (although in theory that should mean super cool intake temps until it thaws and leaks :D)

Yep, regular engine coolant here, too. Did have some water wetter in at one point but pretty sure that made chuff all difference given how the water in the reservoir never gets more than lukewarm anyway.

yep use the pink stuff in the engine coolant, weaker mix than the engine and water wetter if your feeling flush - job done. I tend to fill to just above the return feed into tank to allow for expansion DG
