Being from a Nissan tuning background, 200sx's, I'm interested in tuning my recently acquired VXT. Back in the day, on the 1.8 200sx it was and easy upgrade to the T28 turbo from the 2.0sx later model. This would give better boost and hold the boost up to the limiter better than the standard tubby. My VXT has a pre cat removal pipe, and a VXR turbo and map, but I was just wondering what power hike JUST fitting the VXR turbo would give as a base line mod? I'm looking to get an exhaust next, and air box mod but wonder what sort of power I should be expecting now, and after these additions. Sorry for the ramble!! Dave

Anything past 250hp and I think your clutch is on its limits although some peoples clutches have been known to be ok for 260Hp after this you need to start thinking about chargecoolers/intercoolers

Yeah. I don't want to go massive power as I like it as it is (famous last words!!) But wondered how much extra the VXR tubby was worth on its own????

Without a map on the car, you will not see much more than standard power. The vxr turbo runs cooler and is less likely to crack so a worthy upgrade. If you do want to tune the car in the future I would advise upgrading the chocolate thrust bearing. Steve

The VCR turbo is not as popular as the DVD turbo.

Would you notice much difference putting the VXr turbo before the map gets done if the original is a bit tired?

I've heard there no difference but I'm sure someone will confirm the above

What's the standard boost pressure on the VXT? Would not a bigger turbo flow more air at the same pressure, compared to the smaller standard thrbo, therefore giving slight better power?

Yep, thats 1 of the 2 principle benefits of moving up in turbo size.

Am I right in thinking standard boost is 0.8 bar?

yes but the flow characteristic isn't that differet between the two, the main advatage of the VXR turbo is that it's more efficient giving you a lower outlet temperature at the same boost pressure

I was stage 3 for a year then I fitted a VXR turbo. IMO there is no noticable difference without some injectors and a remap. Then there is a BIG difference :)

Would a bigger VXR turbo get to the required boost pressure with less effort, therefore less heat etc but still the ecu would only allow 10psi or so. The extra power would Be gained when a map allows higher boost pressures and the turbo can 'manage' to hold it higher up the rev range ?

What size are standard injectors, and at what power do they max out ?
