Hi - looking at buying the ctek MXS 5.0. Do I need to buy the comfort connector too or can I permanently attach this to the car and unplug or do I need the comfort connector permanently connected and then plug in to that. Sorry if this is a thick question, but can't seem to find the answer via google or the ctek website. Thanks, Paul

I have exactly the same charger. Mine is attached to the battery and then the wire trails underneath the front of the car. You then just connect the charging lead to this. The extra bits Come with the charger. I leave mine connected to the car during the winter months.

Our siggy connector has a live feed, and you can also charge through it.
(i have been running it this way for 3 years on a row now)

I used the ciggy lighter attachment and the trailed the cable out of the window and rested the control brick on the windscreen atop the wiper blade. Gives you great visibility of what state of charge the car is in from distance.

I recently went for the 3.6 with the ciggy attachment and it works great. just pop it in when it's in the garage and the battery remains fully charged until next time I use it.

I've got the ciggy lighter adapter, perfect for TBH. When the car was living outside I ran it and extension cable through the letter box and sat it on the pax seat with the charger, and the cable went through the window, pull the window back up and lock the car and then you don't have to worry ;)

Hi All, question for those of you who have the ctek 5.0. Got mine a couple of weeks ago, battery was as flat as a pancake before so not really hopeful... - plugged into the cig lighter, left it on for a few hours and all I get it a flashing green power light, - just tried the cig lighter on my dad's merc today and same thing, flashing green power light (perhaps merc cig lighter isn't a permanent live feed like the vx?)... - then connected it to merc battery direct and it started charging ... - tried on the VX direct to the battery without cig lighter adapter, still flashing green light I'm guessing the battery is beyond repair...presume I go halfords and pick one up? Did a search and it mentions 063 size/type whatever that means... silly/stupid question incoming - I assume it will it be fine to buy and then just stick on the ctek charger without actually putting it into the VX. Not planning on driving the VX anytime soon other than turn it over now and again (suspension refresh over Jan-March), so I'm not going to kill/waste a perfectly good battery if I buy now and don't get round to putting it in the vx as long as keep it connected upto the ctek charger? thumbsup

What is the longest time you have left it connected to the VX?? only ask as I had a flat battery when I got mine (not sure of the model) and it took over 24 hours for the green light to stop flashing

via the cig lighter i left it on the flashing green light for a few days...got nothing...now i've left it connected direct to the battery, so its only been on a couple of hours yet, so i'll see what the status is tomorrow...fingers crossed!

If you have a battery that is nearly dead it should only take a few hours for a complete recharge. That don't sound good with the cigarrette lighter as it should have charged it. Have you checked that the lighter actually works? I plugged mine in and had nothing for a few hours. Turned out it was the fuse located in the boot.

Thanks for the reply Rick, cig lighter was working as I regulary used it for my navigation when using daily, however I thought there may be a problem with the cig lighter attachment...so I connected the Ctek 5.0 direct to the battery and left it running for a couple of days...still getting the green flashing light :( have checked the ctek on my dad's car and it worked fine connecting it directly...battery must be completely knackered... will have to get a new battery...063 the size i'm looking for?

The ctek requires a very small charge to be left in the battery to start the trickle. You could try to fool it by attaching your dad battery to yours, and the ctek. Once the ctek starts working, remove the other battery. Small % of succes though. If the battery is really fooked, you need a new one.

Just to add I've had Tue same twice now - battery has gone completely flat and the ctek didn't want to charge it. Luckily I had an ancient battery charger - connected that up for no more than 10 mins, then switched to the ctek and seemed to charge fine! Car doesn't survive longer than a fortnight though, so think the battery is on its way out :(.

Battery on my Focus got very flat. Ctek needs min 2v. I had to hook it up to another car that was running, leave it 10 min and then try again with the Ctek.

This is about the cheapest I could find them. Very quick service and they come from a Ford Main Dealer: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item25780aa4f4
