So, thinking now of lowering the vx, not happy with the clearance of the speedlinealikes with Toyo AD08's far too much gap! So what's the best shocks / springs etc in a budget category, adjustable would be good too, any ideas of fitting costs as well would be appreciated ta

Eliseparts lower front damper mounts. Will give ~10mm lowering at the front.

can i just get springs from somewhere, would this be a long job for someone to fit? Was thinking of taking to Sinclairs in Romford to do a job like this?

I'd go with new shocks. One bolt at the top and one at the bottom holds 'em in place- dead easy to change yourself. You'll want the car geo'd after though.

The shocks and springs are a single unit so you would have more hassle if you were going to change the springs only. I'm a rubbish mechanic and you would be convinced that I did the majority of my jobs blindfolded with oven gloves on, but it only took me 2.5 hours first time. That was with breaks too.

Jack it up, take wheel off, put something under the hub so that it doesn't drop on the ground, undo top bolt with 2 spanners, undo the bottom bolt with 2 spanners, lift out shock. Fitting is the opposite of removal except put a little bit of grease on the bolts before fitting. Simples

I have a 20mm drop on the rear and 15mm drop in the front with an original set of Gaz's and BOT geo. I managed to swap an entire set of standard billies on my mates turbo in exactly 2 hours from start to finish - opening garage to closing it.
