As its quite a common problem (and mine had long since dropped off) I thought i'd have a stab at making my own replacement for the plastic exhaust shield that comes fitted to, but usually quickly departs the rear of most VX220's.

I also didn't fancy buying one of the over priced replacements and either struggling underneith the car to fit it or removing the whole rear clam!

Commence pikey exhaust shroud/heat shield build...

What you'll need:
  • Appropriately sized Can (prefereably empty) - I found this one in the corner of my garage
  • A pair of Sharp Scissors / Knife
  • Metal File / Rotary Tool
  • Heat Proof Paint
  • Black Heat Resistant PU Adhesive - Similar to this: http://www.fluesuppl...cone-black.html
and you can go from this:

The entire album with descriptions is here: Vauxhall VX220 - Cheap Exhaust Shroud Guide

Its really easy to do and improves the look of the rear end massively! :D

Enjoy!

How does tiger seal hold up to the job? I was thinking of sticking my oem 1 back on but not sure what's best to use for this?

TigerSeal was fine on mine while i had it... although i did sell the car about 4 months later so can't really comment on its longevity.

Something like this would be better suited: http://www.fluesuppl...cone-black.html

(edited the guide to Heat Resistant adhesive)

If you mean the heat shield that is in the left rear wheel arch - why not just use heat wrap?

I did - works fine.

Eltech have a nice option on their facebook site to fix the exhaust shield. You could always knock up something similar if the 40 Euro is a bit steep.

What's a 'Speedster'?  :poke:  ;) Otherwise, I like that a lot. Might enquire to see if they can make this with 'VX220' instead.

Yep....that expensive Eltech 'solution' offers absolutely no heat shielding at all!   :beat:

I know it's off topic but I really like the side skirts and red and black stripe on this VX220. Also I think the rear lights look cool. I'm finding it really frustrating that I can't find a picture of the whole car, just close up bits.

You can use existing undertray bolts to add such a piece of plywood/alloy/whatever you can get your hands on.

On to the DIY shop this weekend gaffer  :tt:

lol, if I tried to make these side skirts out of plywood or alloy it would be a 1 in 156068 chance that it would look good :)

I've got to stop looking on this site as I keep finding ways to spend money that I hadn't thought of before.
