Ok who near Bedfordshire has some aftermarket seats I can sit in? I am thinking of ordering a Tillett B5 but just want to check the competition out, wondering about the Tilletts long drive ability with the cloth panels.

You've probably tried JK's...? I'll be about next weekend. Not many local people with Tilllets other than Mike I reckon.

I found the JK's a bit tight on the hips, very tight in fact

I have a B5 and drove from cheshire to le mans in the summer. Wasn't too bad but it was more uncomfortable than the standard seat. Drove to snetterton and knockhill which are quite far without an issue as long as i have a couple of breaks. Biggest problem is that it leans quite far back which makes in uncomfortable on long journeys. Another thing to be aware of is If you still have the centre console then the seat cant slide too far forward as it fouls it. This has been a problem when my gf and cliffie have drives it. Also because it leans back alot you cant slide the seat all the way back with a harness bar.

or did you use another type of bracket

Yeah using the correct brackets. Its ok for me but if i was any taller then id be in trouble but you can get a betts harness bar that goes further back but then you have to move your speakers i think. Biggest thing i dislike about it is the fact it doesn't slide far enough forward to stash my soft top behind the seats. Cant remember quite how tall you are Nick. If your roughly my height or taller than cliffie then you will be ok. Have you considered Dave the trimmers VXR seats?

I know im not in your area but i have the lotus 340 seats same as the Vxr and i think they are far more comfortable than standard seats, if you get chance try them.

Dave's, 340, 211 and vxr (and some elise/exige special editions) are all lotus motorsport seats. (of which the 340 and 211 probably habe probax padding)
I also have them. Very near oem, just more comfy (and i'm a lard ass), slightly tighter and look the tits.
Not to mention the harnass cut outs look oem.

Vockcy has the lotus ones, fab has the 211 ones, and then a bunch that have the Dave ones.

Nick is perfect in my seat but I think he wants to look at other options. My opinion Nick is... Bite the bullet, buy the thing you want rather than look at saving money and ending up spending more in the long run.

You don't run with a centre console though. If Nick wants to keep this it might be a tight fit.

I've never understood why seats are so damned expensive, it's irks me to pay circa £400 to 700 for an almost non meachnical part. Perhaps a VX owner who is a carbon/glassfiber specialists can design a lightweight one for us ?

I'm a cuddly fellow with child bearing hips, and the b5 is just about the most comfy VX chair going! Even with only the base cloth and nothing on the back.

My B5's are great, just been to DG's today with it too, Dg seemed to like em. For me too the other offerings were just a bit small for me, I sat in all I could find at Autosport before buying.

And risk crashing with a weak or untested part? No thanks

I've had JK's but they were so flexible I went for a B5 and you can really see why they cost as much as they do!! The work that goes into them is very time consuming and they are super rigid!! I use the Motorsport subframes which can get the seats very very low and has adjustable rake as well as more front/back adjustment than you'll need. Thing is they're a fixed subframe so not adjustable once you've bolted them in. Not a problem for you but if someone else wants to drive your car.... I drive to France in the seat no bother and I have no padding on mine at all :)

I'm going to try fitting a Sparco Rev seat in my car, it should fit as a chap in the US used to sell mounts to fit them in S2 Elises. Tillets are nice but a lot of cash for a road and occasional track car.
