I know it was an Elise driver, his (it surely must have been a he) car was most often parked nearby untill the day I returned to my shiny Vix to see that the nearside mirror had been forcefully removed; knee brace marks still evident on the door dirt too...
So, maybe I just get a new one at the next service, but it looks suspiciously like some ancient Mini item, so I thought I'd ask - do we know the origins of our mirrors?

Yes well spotted, but its a metro mirror - they are 40-50 quid from a rover dealer - however, they have a black rear cover and its texturised. I had to take the outer VX mirror shell and rip apart the metro mirror to insert fit the VX outside around it (colour coded).
You also have to take a hacksaw to the two prongs and shorten them to fit to the VX. If you wait for the proper part it will take six years and you will have to have it sprayed and it will cost a months salary.....
beware of losing the screws in the door as you take it apart as if they fall in the door, they will annoy the living hell out of you rattling around....

Bear in mind that the mirror part (glass, surround and casing) is shared with the Metro (and MGF...and Elise I think) but I think the arm section that connects the mirror to the bodywork is VX specific, or so I was told by a breaker.

I have a pair of MGF heated mirrors in my garage, which i'll be fitting in time for Winter, I'll report back on the fitting logistics once done.

It is a pop to change the mirror, providing the mount is undamaged.
Carefully lever out the glass with the black surround. Inside the shell is a large spring, pull this off at the outer end and the shell is free.
You can buy standard metro mirrors from a Rover specialist (non franchise) for £20. Wet and dry the texture off the shell and paint.
