any one else excited much?

The world is waiting for more information concerning the upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, and now, the world has more details.

In the latest issue of Gameinformer, Rockstar Games sheds some new light on the next major chapter of their GTA franchise:

Three main protagonists: Trevor (career criminal), Michael (retired bank robber), and Franklin (street thug).
You’ll have the ability to switch between the three protagonists during most of the game, and at times they’ll come together to work as a team.
Each main character will have their own personality, motivation and skill sets.
The world of GTAV—Los Santos—is claimed to be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas, and GTA IV combined.
There will be underwater portions of the game’s world that you’ll be able to explore.
You’ll be able to customize the look of the main characters (but the game won’t have the deeper character stats of San Andres).
Some side missions that’ll be in the game are yoga, triathlons, tennis, full games of golf, jet skiing, and base jumping.
Rockstar promises side missions and activities that are more complex than Red Dead Redemption.
GTAV will feature an in-game economy to some extent (but no buying and selling of properties).
Heists will be a bit part of the game.
In one example of what can happen in the game, a player leaves a trail of gasoline running to a vehicle, drops a lighter on the gas, the flame travels the trail to the vehicle, and there’s a huge explosion.
Phone interface will still be a part of the game, but with an updated look and UI, and friends will no longer call you.
You’ll be able to develop friendships in the game, but no romances.
The second trailer for GTAV will be coming on November 14th.

I basically jizz my pants every time a new picture appears on the internet.

This very much got my attention: "The world of GTAV—Los Santos—is claimed to be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, GTA: San Andreas, and GTA IV combined"

:o really!?

To this day I still think GTA4 is one of the most technically impressive games I've ever played. But it left me pretty cold, and I didn't actually enjoy it that much. The new one does sound very impressive, and the screen shots are really cool. Just hope they've learnt some lessons from 4. The fact that they say they've improved the handling bodes well, hated it in GTA 4.

No no no no no.

I hate this tendency to just increase the size of game worlds, I think it's a mistake.

I used to love it in GTA3, Vice City and similar when you would really get to know the world, and race against time missions became a joy when you knew every turn and shortcut to try and finish the mission in time.

If you make the game world too big you remove all familiarity with it. Despite spending a lot of time with GTA4 I still don't think I could remember very much of it at all, whereas I reckon I could draw pretty decent maps of GTA3 and Vice City from memory despite not having played them in years.

Too big a world just becomes a bit disorientating and featureless, something AC3 is suffering from.

I am cautiously optimistic, but only because Red Dead was such a masterpiece.

This is exciting! Was supposed to be due out in May. I loved GTA4, I just tuned right into to story and liked the different sub characters and the interaction between them. I'm all for big maps, I generally have a good sense of direction and tend to know my way about quickly, plus it gets a bit samey when you have to use the same streets all the time. The way the map gets released usually gives plenty of time to learn the map bit by bit :) Bring it on! :D

There's a happy balance.
GTA4 was easy to find your way around because you had sat nav, ditto Red Dead.

San Andreas was big and empty.

I don't have time either, or more accurately, my girls hog the telly with crappy programmes.

Will still buy it though for the off chance of getting to play it. Looks great!

I'm looking forward to it though I have just gone back to gta 4 as I realised I have not 100% completed it yet all missions done ages ago just a few of the little time consuming bits left to do.

I can't wait to get this. I've played 4 twice through and loved every minute of it. I'm sceptical about having a huge huge map, but hopefully there's stuff to do in all of it rather than just having wide open spaces to link areas together. Golf intruiges me, as does tennis! Fingers crossed off road handling will be better than 4 (ie slightly more traction), and that there's a decent mountain driving section with hairpins! Any news on what platform this will be on? Is it going to be next gen or a final swansong for the PS3/360?

A friend of mine is a games tester for Rockstar and it's fair to say he's enjoying his job right now.

An ex-colleague of mine works as a script-writer for Rockstar North, often posts up teaser info on Facebook...the bastard.

It's on PS3/X360 turtle. Probably PC afterwards.

I always felt San Andreas was the pinnacle for me, GTA IV was good in that it became a lot more grown-up and advanced but I felt it was a step down in terms of things to do etc. I actually liked the open space between cities in SA as well, it was too dense in GTA IV to ever get a good race going IMO. Plus for aircraft to work properly you need that big space.

Cheers spuk. Here's a link to a website that seems to be collecting info for gta 5 from all other websites. I've learnt a fair bit reading through it! http://www.gtav.net/
