Getting the right oil for gearboxes, diffs and transfer boxes can be tricky, so please ask here if there is any information that you need.

To help us to give the most accurate advice possible we do need some information about your car. e.g.
Make:
Model:
Year:
Manual/Auto:
Performance Modifications:
Driving style: (road / off-road / track etc.)
Any other information that may be relevant: e.g. approx BHP if modified, any transmission problems
What recommendation are you looking for? Gearbox, diffs, limited slip diffs, transfer boxes etc

Any oil we recommend is available to buy from us (if you would like to) for delivery throughout the UK and many destinations Worldwide. We offer a really extensive range of oils and lubricants from 11 major oil manufacturers at prices much lower than the high street and main dealers. We stock oils and fluids that meet pretty much all manufacturers and international specifications. Our brands include, Silkolene, Fuchs, Gulf, Castrol, Motul, Mobil, Millers Oils, Shell, Valvoline, Amsoil and Redline.

Plus, as the Club is a member of our club discount scheme you can get discounts of at least 10% across our entire range.

To redeem your 10% club discount simply use the following club discount code at the checkout.

VX220

Once the code is added at the checkout you will then receive your extra 10% club discount. However this discount code cannot be used in conjunction with other offer codes, BUT the code can be used in conjunction with any of our offers on this page HERE that do not require offer codes.

Any questions please ask here or contact us via email at sales@opieoils.co.uk

Finally, if there are any products we don't stock and you have difficulty getting hold of elsewhere, let us know and we'll see if we can stock them.

We look forward to being of help!

Cheers
Tim, Opie Oils

You can also contact us by phone on +44 1209 202944
(All oils recommended are available to buy online at my web site)

It might be worth mentioning that we don't have transfer boxes and the diff/gearbox oil is the same thing in our cars.

It's in case you want to ask about anything other than the VX220, a lot of people will have other cars as well. Cheers Tim

I wasn't questioning why the information was there, just clarifying things for people who don't know.

FYI. Gear oil has a very different approval process to engine oil - car manufacturers don't have accessible specifications and will only endorse their own branded oil which is used as first fill in the factory as service fill, for anyone wishing to supply oil they must design field trials to demonstrate their product does not perform worse than the original oil and it's up to the oil marketer to guarantee the performance of the oil, not the car manufacturer. So in short, if you put a different oil in and have a problem with it, the oil marketer will have to pay for the repair, whereas if you stick with original oil (or car manufacturer branded), they will support an problems. Because of this it is important to go for a well known brand of oil, more so than with engine oil.

Yes, you're right there. We've got to be really careful with cars that are under warranty and need gear oil. Cheers Tim

Car under warranty needing gearbox oil.... send that fcuker to the dealer for OEM fluid. Sod screwing with warranties being declined due to using a different oil

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Some people don't look at things normally though.

Stage 3+ Harrop supercharged z22se engine on an 03 with 70k on it, probably going to be about about 340-360bhp range. Mainly road use, kept outside so always cold, and used in the winter. 10.60 I think has been said to be good on the SC cars due to the fact they vent quite a bit. I would welcome any reccomendations as I need to change my oil asap.

Any idea how hot the oil is getting when driven hard? Can you check your wiper to see how long it is? Also, does it have a standard hook fitting or something else? I should be able to offer something. Cheers Tim
