Hi all, I recently go my first VX and was starting to sort out what things needed doing first (coolant leak is number one as the rad bleed screw is leaking), but now the door bell is setting off the alarm every time someone presses it. Not sure why it didn't do it in the first few weeks though. Anyway I read the post from the abacus car alarm guy about a replacement unit which I'll look into but since I might have the dash out and door cards off to vinyl wrap I was wondering about fitting central locking motors at the same time. I don't seem to have it on my 53 reg NA. I do however have a button on the door key that doesn't seem to do anything - what's it for? There is also a small black chrome bezel button the right hand side of the steering column that doesn't seem to do anything either - again anyone know what it's for? Thanks Kev

Was never an option on the proper hardcore VX

It's either a button for a light in the key, or not a button at all.

Odo reset and Stack illumination dimmer.

I have that button on my stack but I don't have central locking. I think it is only for the odo reset.

That's a different button aimy. You'll have a toggle switch further back that operates the central locking.

Thanks. I really just wanted to check that I definitely didn't have central locking that wasn't working or just didn't have central locking. I'll have a look at the stack dash to see what happens when I press the button.

Apologies.....it feels like the Vx has been away for winter for ages! I forget what it looks like nowadays!

When I first got my VX, the postman set off my alarm when he rang tne neighbour's wireless door bell. Postman said it was not uncommon and told us that the frequency of the door bell push could be changed. Neighbour changed the frequency - no more false alarms, so I didn't have to change the car alarm.

I definitely have that button (only 1 button) and it does the central locking, its not a toggle switch, it also controls the Odometer trip/brightness...

I'll take the doors off just to be certain there are no central locking motors installed and take it from there. Did look this week for a door bell with a switchable freqency but the ones in robert Dyas like the one I have doesn't have a switch - just says it contains electronics to prevent interference. I'll look on ebay. At least that would fix the issues at my location - just a bit worried about when I park it on the street somewhere else when I go off to work and obviously can't tell if it's been anoying the people living there.

Open the door and look in the hinge area. If there's no cables, running from car to door, you've got no central locking. And you haven't.
