Hi Guys, Well my experience with the VX 220 Turbo seems to be going downhill unfortunately. Having owned the VX for 2 months I have had to have the engine mounts replaced, a track rod end replaced, my radiator replaced, and currently needing some new dampeners as it knocks over speed bumps... I have recently noticed a slight rattle from my turbo. It happens when the Turbo is spooling up and is not like the heat shield rattle (which i have had) and not like the heat shield on the exhaust rattle (which I have had) and is not like the engine mount rattle. It is a high pitched rattle that only lasts half a second as the turbo begins to spool up - it will rattle and then start the normal whoosh noise. Doesn't do it every time but seems to be getting more consistent and lasting slightly longer. Having spent close to 2k getting new rear tryres, servicing, full geo (it was way out and desperately needed doing) and fixing all the issues I have had with the car, if the turbo is on the way out I may have to rethink owning this car. Oh and to top it off, my passenger door lock has stopped unlocking (no central locking) I understand it is something to do with the spring not pushing it all the way out when you push it in to open the door. I can fiddle with it and get it eventually to unlock but it really is the cherry on the top of the cake at the moment. I just want to enjoy the car but currently I spend more time worrying about it, and more money that I can justify. Supportive words, kind suggestions, and favorable comparisons to starving homeless people all welcome.

I had a very similar rattle and bought a new turbo to replace what I thought was a faulty one. When I was removing the unit I saw that the metal washer plate had snapped right near the end.

Might not be the same but worth a check as they are only £20. It looks like this;

Thanks Steve, I was hoping for a response along these lines. Car is booked in on Tuesday to have the dampeners replaced, I will mention it to them and see if they can take a look. I lack the mechanical knowledge/tools to check this myself. I will take it easy and try to be less heavy footed till I get it sorted.

Hope you get this sorted and you can finally enjoy the car! It would be a shame to sell after you've sorted all the niggles out. What shocks you going for?

I don't track the car, and I don't intend to. No plans on lowering it, and it is still more car/capabilities than I can handle so it will be stock shocks for me. Indeed it would, but if I keep needing to spend several hundred quid on it, it changes from a silly impractical plastic car into something impossible to afford :(

Thanks. I love the VX. it puts a smile on my face every time I put my foot down. Once it stops destroying my poor poor bank account, things will pick up. I am reaching the limit of what I can take but if this is the darkest before dawn era, I will come through it with hopefully a more reliable VX due to all the new bits in it.

The knocking maybe from the steering rack not the dampers

PSR Automotive told me my rear driver side dampener was leaking oil about a week ago. started knocking soon after. Knowing my luck however, my steering rack is sure to go soon :)

Luckily for you, Titan are based in St Neots. Unluckily, you probably haven't got a Titan steering rack. :P

That's pretty much the ongoing theme of my VX experience Techie.

Haha, I would be happy with a stock working VX. I really, really, hope I can keep the car. If not, Silver 05 turbo with 36k on the clock, never tracked, it has a brand new pro alloy rad and new rear tyres if anyone is interested?*

*Not a serious offer

Sorry to her you are having troubles. Like most of us on here you end up spending a lot of money on a VX just to maintain it or modify it. I have owned my car since June this year, done only 500 miles and spent over 5.5 k on her. I sometimes think about getting rid as my bank balance is depleting but I always come around to keeping it. Keep in there chap!!

Its now a better car, after all the work you have put in to it.... we have all been there at one point or another. Im too scared to add up what ive spent over 3 years These are kinda the same hidden costs when buyers want a 8k tubby vs a 12k one

I know its a diffrent car but... Sadly i can tell you i had exactly the symptoms you have just described on my ibiza tdi....it did this for well over a year then the turbo popped. Sounds like a tinie wheelspin everytime it spools up just for half a second or so. As i dont know how access is for removing a turbo, maybe just leave it. As i said mine lasted quite a while. sorry again for this sombre post

Well over a year eh? I guess it could be that you had a loose washer section like what was mentioned earlier, and your turbo popped a year later because of a different issue. I will see what my Garage think and keep my fingers crossed.

the aluminium plate that is bolted to the block are good places to look for rattles.
