Good ladies and gentlemen Just back from a quick, evening spin (almost literally) I was surprised to how little traction I'm getting from the rear. Not sure if it's completely normal for a regular tyre or if mine are old and the compound a bit aged but when boost comes on strong in my Stage 2 (247bhp-ish) in 3rd gear, on a straight bit of motorway tarmac, I get wheelspin! I'm still running it on the Yoko Advan Neova AD08s that it came with. I don't know exactly what the RPM/MPH was at the time as I was VERY focussed on keeping it together and heading in the right direction. Opinions? Is it normal for these tyres? Might it just be time to get replacements more suitable for these temps? Cheers D

December in the cold & damp with about 260ft lb... Normal! Even more so if you've an aggressive geo (and heavy right foot!)

Yup.... Also, its pretty cold tonight duncs. What are your tyre pressures like? Are they over inflated?

My backend stepped out when changing lanes the other week, 4th gear accelerating gently from 45 (50 limit dual carriageway). Just drive carefully. AD08's in a standard NA.

Road surface temps will have been about 4C in most of the UK this aft (I suspect) and thought the Yokos were more of a summer tyre. Plus that is enough torque to break traction.

Hmmm. Haven't checked the pressures

I'm pretty light on my loafers gentle on the pedals but I did fancy burying the pedal and keeping it there to see what happened. Squirming is what happened. Never had that in third, over 3k. Hello Stage 2. Interesting.

Yikes! I'll be treating the right pedal like an eggshell.

Yup - seems so. With a bit of luck I'll still make it to Leeds in one piece!

:yeahthat: I'm very light on the loud pedal through 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this weather! Like you i had a "moment" when it was cold and have been a lot more careful since!

Are you over inflated? I have to say my AD08's have really good side bite, but do not have the forward traction of the near bald T1R's that they replaced. Are your dampers set too hard? Kind regards, Paul

Even more so if you've an aggressive geo

I know that feeling,my aggressive rear camber makes mine impossible to drive on a damp road!nearly went through a wall up in the Peak District last month!! A trip to MMG is on the cards in the very near future!!

Possibly but I've had some squirming under part throttle once the boost comes on. It can be a bit 'all or nothing' Makes me consider DG's Standalone upgrade...

You'll still have traction problems if the camber/tyre condition/weather conditions/everything else that matters isn't favourable despite having spent a fortune on a spangly PCM.

Ha ha. Yeah, just meant for a more even delivery of the good stuff... Before anyone says it...no, I don't regret buying a Tubby over a NA/SC. :D

To be clear, I'm happy with sideways but I'd like to have a bit more predictability over when it's going and *some* degree of modulation!

Very stiff springs seemed to not help me either, when I moved to the CF ARB setup and on 450 rears my rear traction improved massively.... But it's more likely to make a difference on worse surfaces that a flat motorway I reckon?

If those Advans are anything like R888 then their "Safe" operating temperature range is about 8 degrees celcius IIRC. However if the back end is set to stiff then this will reduce grip. That said you don't want it too soft either. Don't want passengers thinking the car is comfortable otherwise they want to come out with you all the time, which reduces acceleration. :poke:
