I am about to get tyres for my new rims (ATS 8x17 & 9x17). I use my car for Trackdays, Nürburgring trips and Sunday drives. I am looking at AD08, R888 and A048. I heard that proper trackday toyes (R888, A048) are very noisy on the road after having been used on track. What are your experiance ? How big are the are the grip differece between AD08 and R888, A048 ? Greetings Allan

Yes a little bit noisier but you'll get used to it.

I

in those circumstances surely road noise is right at the bottom of the list of considerations

You get a bit more tyre roar from 888's but as Chris said, it's not unbearable. I've tried 888's and now onto AD08's but it's a little early to report on them. They seem fine. If you can afford them and accept the wear rate and increased risk of aquaplaning then go with 888's.

Personally I prefer the slightly stiffer sider wall on the yokos.... I found r888 and r1-r (my current tire) a little spongy. I also find oddly my r1-r not much better than semi slicks in the wet, seems to aquaplane just as much.... Or maybe I forgot how bad semi slicks were as haven't driven on them for about 18 months J

AD08's make a perfect all-weather tyre with decent wet weather grip and water-shedding properties. On track they are predictable and resist wear better that A048's and R888's IMHO.

I have been looking at getting a set of AD08 for when these A539 rears wear out. I wouldn't have started a thread to ask where the best place is to buy a set of AD08 is, but I will ask it here :) I have looked on Camskill to far...

I traded blackcircles off against tyretraders Rob. I was after 205/235's though.

Our local place was 450 fully fitted for a set of ad08s last feb. They rose to 500 fitted in the summer.

Yep, AD08s make a lot of sense on paper and mostly in practice too. Feel in the dry isn't quite as sharp as the 48s, and the front profile looks odd.

Tyre Barn Newbury. Brilliant Service and always the cheapest for fitted tyres. He also swaps tyres over and balances for free, if he knows you'll buy his tyres when you come to replacing. The only downside is that he can't get 888s or 48s.

I think we can all agree the trade-offs are more than worth it. Full tread depth too!

i swaped back to cut slicks (one set of 48s, one set of 888s) so i didn't think the trade offs were worth it, but i can see why lots of people do.

They sound like the good allround choice.

Looking at the pattern it makes sence. It is what i hoped for.

Are you running ATS rims ?
If yes. Why did you go for 205/235 and not 215/245 ? Rubbing ?
Do you have any picture of them on the car ?

My problem with A048 is that the rears 245/40-17 only is available in the MH (Medium-Hard) compound. If i want M (Medium) rears i have to go 235/45-17.
Fronts 215/45-17 are available both M and MH.

What compound are you running ? Would you change compound if they where available ?

I chose the lotus oem LTS compound. To be honest, if you're even thiking about compounds then the AD isn't going to cut it.

I am only thinking compounds because i fear that our lightweight cars will have problems getting heat into the MH compound.
But you might be right or i am just overthinking thinks.

Allan. I am running on DTCs and went 205/235 as I didn't want to cut inserts into the sills due to rubbing. I'll see if I have any pics, no up close ones from what I recall.
