Hi Guys, I cannot justify spending £1500 on a funky exhaust system - but would like to get more induction noise from the Z20LET.... Having read several threads about the Apexi unit it looks like this may be my perfect answer... I was thinking about just replacing the airbox with the Apexi for now on standard OEM air inlets (63MM?) and maybe switch to 80mm at a later date. Do you think it will sound much better than my current MMG fettled OEM air box? Is it worth it? Can I easily upgrade inlet pipes later and AMM? Does anyone know where I can get a cheap and genuine Apexi unit as most on e-bay seem to be made in Australia and look dodgy? Id appreciate your advice on this. Thanks Jon

There are genuine a'pexi products on ebay. i bought mine from there, the 65mm and it fit's perfectly. If you go to the 80mm setup you will need your map fettling.

Amberperformance from eBay for genuine apexi filters. I had my airbox drilled previously and Id say there's certainly a difference,so worthwhile IMO

Thanks Amy / Tim. Tim, how did you fit yours? Did you keep the existing air box / half? Use some kind of a support bracket? Id be interested in the sound difference keeping the OEM fitment? I know Amy has gone for a stage 4 80mm - I cant afford this right now. Cheers, Jon

Got rid of all the old gubbings and brackets, you couldn't house the filter in the oe box. Fathomed a new bracket (stolen from an old secuity light in my shed that fitted perfectly) hooked up a cold air feed and that's it. Very simple.

As for the 80mm amm, my understanding is unless you are going for a lot of power (360+ i read on here) the only real benefit of the 80mm is its more robust. The pipework immediately after the amm reduces anyway on the 80mm.

If you got the apexi 65mm and then later on got the 80mm amm wouldn't you need to buy a new apexi to fit?

You would need a new adapter plate, not a new filter I believe.

So does a stage 4 need an 80mm air mass meter or not? And if so could an 80mm apexi filter be fitted at a later date without needing the map tweaking? The ones on eBay say universal fitting, are they the ones?

As far as I know stage 4 doesn't need a 80mm air mass meter. It helps though!

Doesn't need one but the standard maf does have a habit of failing.

So what's the difference between the apexi and a ripspeed cone filter? http://www.halfords....65660&langId=-1 I guess its just the name your paying for? Also will the ripspeed work just like the apexi does?

If you want a bit more noise from the exhaust you could always do the Pipo mod http://www.vx220.org...andard-backbox/

The main difference (I would assume) is that the quality of the filtration will be better on the Apex I kit. I.E it wont fcuk the engine of your expensive car...

Yeah I thought that but wasn't sure if the ripspeed would be just as good with a rubbish name
