Assuming you have a wide enough rim i'd suggest the best size would be 205/40X17 (fit/cost/availablity), Not sure how the ABS will be effected

If you have no probs with ABS now and you stick as close as possible to original circ. you should be ok http://www.miata.net...e/tirecalc.html

So you mean you have rear wheels on the front ? If so on an NA use 205/40 If its a tubby I understand 215/40 will be ok Both standard rims

I will buy a new fornt rims 7,5 x 17 the calculation of rotation, front rims 175/55 r17 on new front rims 205/45 r17 is 1,3% perfect the calculation of rotation, front rims 175/55 r17 on new front rims 205/40 r17 is 4.6% the limit is 5% this solution is bad??? I want to mount the bridgestone S001 or adrenalin But how to calculate between rims front and rear rims for ABS?

Or just fit what you want and disconnect the abs It's crap anyway But to be honest not had any issues with 205/40 on mine and abs is still in play

From what I understand the ABS unit that was first used on the NA was not able to handle certain differences from front to back. It was programmed for the standard rims/tires and couldn't handle other combinations with different radii very well. My ABS is 'upgraded', which I guess means that it was changed for a later model. At least it has a very large white dot on it, indicating that someone just had some fun with a brush, or that the unit was actually changed. I never had any problems and I'm on 18", 215/40 front and 235/40 back. Front is 0.8% larger than original, back 3.3%. Like a said, no problem with the ABS unit I have.

Interested in your experience of this...Does this make the steering significantly heavier, or the handling more twitchy? I assume they used the 175s to introduce an element of nice safe understeer?

i have 205 tyres on the front fitted to rear size rims these work fine I don't notice any difference in steering weight and the car feels better planted on turn in but that could be the Bridgestone on the original rims were getting old
I do think it may be tempted to follow white lines a bit more but that could also be in my mind as I have been on this set up for a year or so now

Front to rear calc don't matter if the rears are staying standard, only new fronts to old fronts. But if you really want to know just use the same calculator with 225/45/17 against 175/55/17, 205/45/17, 205/40/17, etc I think 205/40/17 are too small but I never tried them and many people say they have no issues. There again many do have issues with ABS on all sorts of tyre sizes. I am on 215/45/17 and 245/40/17 and have no ABS issues. I selected those sizes because they worked out as close as I could get to original front rear ratio, worked for me.
