Hello, I'm new here and am looking to acquire a speedster here in Belgium. It's a 2.2 N/A and the deal is almost closed. I've got the budget to supercharge it and will be looking to do so immediately after purchase. I've driven it as is, and although it handles like a dream, there's just not enough power in it for me. I'm used to driving around in an E60 M5 during the weekends, and i'd like a bit more oomph. I've heard i need to speak to Joe about S/C'ing my (future) opus. Further mods will be light flywheel, a clutch that isn't made from bread crumbs and a kawasaki green wrap (sorry). Furthermore ... salutations to all! -Kevin

250 odd hp will do me just fine.
Besides ... i like the throttle response that comes with N/A.

Welcome to the forum. I am sure you wil get lots of information from here. Post some pics up when you get a chance. IMO if you have driven an M5 get a stage 4 Turbo.

Turbo tuning will be much easier to hide from Belgian MOT then a bulky supercharger.

VXTs are quite dear here. Also (just imho) I don't fancy the idea of turbocharging the car due to it's low weight. I don't want a sudden rush/surge of power ... nor do i want any lag.
They only look under the hood of cars for the VIN. They are more interested in ripping you off for "tuning tax". It's just a money generating scheme ... nothing more.
Even then, i plan on modifying one of those ecotec engine covers to put on and hide it.

If they give me too much shite, i'll just register it in luxembourg.

Probably not big enough, but i like the idea.

Speerke from speedsterclub.nl is running a rotrex supercharger on the underside of the engine, so much better hidden.

Is there any disadvantage to running the rotrex? Power or cost wise?

The bracket to attach it to the engine has to be custom made, as rotrex solutions are not off the shelf. His current rotrex does about 260 horses, due to stock engine internals. He´s working on enforced internals, and putting a bigger rotrex on. A rotrex is more expensive then a GM M62, but no idea how much more. Just register on the speedsterclub.nl and ask him directly. A lot of belgians on that forum.

Thanks for the info.
I've heard of a dutch guy that does conversions. You wouldn't happen to know his name by any chance?

Smiley knows all the details, but I think Exmantaa would be willing to help you out. Beware that soon enough, you will have either an LSJ or B207 engine with the stonger internals and a Harrop instead of a M62 and a nice gradual 370HP. I always feel like Pipo the Clown when reading what these guys do. As Smiley already mentioned, have a go at speedsterclub.nl too

As alex says; exmantaa does M62 and Harrop supercharger conversions if you do not feel like DIY.
(harrop requires enforced engine internals for Z22SE, or a stronger saab/lsj engine block)

Speerke is the only one running a rotrex. Only beneifit would be better hidden for MOT purposes, due to it´s location (as it´s a small thing).
He is also the one that has cracked the Z22se ecu for full control, if you don´t want to use the Courtenay SC remap.
Saab/LSJ also requires custom engine loom, and ecu control via HP tuners software.

If you buy an rhd vx220, you could also have it dropped off at Joe/Lee for the SC conversion, and then bring it to Belgium.

DBilas Germany does turbo conversions for the Z22SE.

Lot´s of options to think about :tt:

I don't think i want to venture beyond 270ish hp in this car. My M5 had 507 HP for 1.85 tonnes ... 274 hp/tonne. If i get 250 out of the vx, it would be 294 hp/tonne. Torque is 270 nm/tonne for the M5 vs 352/tonne for the sc vx ...
I think a "standard" stage 2 conversion would keep me well entertained.
I should probably give exmantaa a call. I suppose he delivers good work ? :)

I've read about the cracked EOM ECU ... at that price, i think i'll just push on and get a standalone ECU/loom. I appreciate the amount of work going into reverse engineering ... but the price is just crazy ... no offense.

Can i call exmantaa or do i need to go through the PM route?

VXT stage 4.9 = 588 Nm / tonne here , makes quite a good noise too

That's just mental :D

I don't think i'd need such a power/weight ratio in any car. I just need a weekend & track toy, nothing more. A standard stage2 conversion on an N/A will do just fine.

Just register and pm him.
If you are comfortable to build standalone ecu, you could also just built the SC in yourself.
Exmantaa did mine: http://www.speedster...opic.php?t=4568 He also sells just the kits.
More and more people taking the diy step.
