I forgot who it was that modded his oilcap into a breather.
Posted Image

Getting ready to take a whack at my spare one, and would really like to see the underside of the cap in detail. (ie what's removed)
As by the look of it the part i need to remove is the same that locks the cap, so i'm confused.

And we don't all have the tools like Vocky to put a bigger hole in in the rocker cover.
I would really like to know if this helps, as my spit outs are silly.

XW40 from top of my head. I know of the advised 60 for track cars, but mine does 80% road.

Next time you change oil. Look for one that has MB 229.5 or 229.51 claims, I promise that will reduce the amount of oil you're collecting.

I don't think that's oil, if it's the same as mine was, it's some sort of pissey distilled orange water.

Bottom is low molecular weight fraction of oil, top will include water from combustion. Changing to an oil with the claims I listed above will include tight limits for a test that basically replicates this test in the lab.

So does increasing the venting availability reduce the amount of that oily gunky stuff or just give a bigger hole to escape from. What is the actual advantage of doing this? Will it improve my oil consumption, will it stop my oil going black so quickly?

your oil goes black quickly because the SC map overfuels and soots the oil. There's nothing that can be done about this but it isn't an issue either - all oil on the market (at least in Europe) is designed to work with diesels which soot to a much higher level than any rich running petrol engine.

A narrow neck will result in bubbling of the oil through the vent, where as a wider one will break the bubbles, allowing only the gases to escape without lots of oil going with it.

Vocky described the issue earlier. On a supercharger conversion we close the small pcv hole between cilinder 2 and 3, due to maps unable to handle it. That increases pressure on other places, resulting in oil spit out from the rocker cover breather. So far it has been reported to be fixed/brought down by using thicker oil, or by widening the rocker cover breather. Sticky's trick is to add another breathing hole, hence this thread.

I'm not liking the idea of my oil bubbling!! Are you saying this only occurs just before venting? I think a modified cam cover is the way to go if increased venting is required with all due respect to Sticky's ingenious solution.

Yes, the modified rocker cover would be ideal, but i have not seen feedback from SC (track) cars runing it. Vocky's ITB garage queen is the only one i know.
