I'm literally losing the will to live with the swirl pot/2nd pump set up on the saxo. :beat: :beat: :( Can any of my fellow racing type people please tell me if push fittings secured with hose clips are allowed? I can't see anything specific in the blue book to say that we can't use them, but it would be just our luck to be turned away on the day. Also, if all of the pipe work is on the outside of the car, is it ok to just use rubber fuel lines or do they still have to be stainless braided? Any help greatly appreciated as the race is on Sunday. Cheers gang thumbsup

Push fit with Jubilee clips are fine, rubber piping is fine. If the BB doesn't say you can't do something you can. Are you aware of 10 Tenths forum? I don't spend any time there myself, but it's populated by racers and officials who will answer those last minute questions.

I think they are ok too, but joins in pipework do have to be behind a bulkhead. Not sure where you put the swirlpot, most 106/saxos have them on top of the fuel tank. That is then boxed in to give the bulkhead.

Think there is something about the lines being non-permeable though, i.e. PTFE lined.

If you look in the back of your Blue Book, you may be able to find a scrutineer near you - normally they are happy to help clarify.

Personally - I've never had much joy with getting a response directly from scrutineers - plus if it's a subjective issue - one view is not likely to be consistent across scrutineers.

I would contact the championship technical director to ask them - they should have more MSA contacts and will be there on race day to back you up.

Shame as we had loads of help for a friends car down in Windsor, a local guy actually came out to look at his car on a weekend and couldn't have been more helpful!

Bits of Blue Book you need for this:

Section J
5.2.1.
Be fitted with bodywork including a driver (and passenger) compartment isolated from the engine, fluid
filled batteries, gearbox, hydraulic reservoirs, transmission shafts, chains, belts and gears, brakes,
road wheels, suspension components including their operating linkages and attachments, petrol/fuel tanks,
oil tanks, water header tanks, catch tanks and fuel system components (other than where such
components comply with J5.13.1 and J5.13.2) such as to prevent there being a hazard

INSERTED BY ME - swirl pot / pump / filter all need to be behind bulkheads or boxed in.


Fuel Systems
5.13.1.
Have any fuel lines passing through the driver/passenger compartment protected and, if non-
metallic, to be internally or externally metal braided hydraulic pressure hose or fuel lines complying with
FIA specifications.
INSERTED BY ME - If you lines are outside the driver/passenger compartment then they do not need to be overbraided.
5.13.2.
They may only be joined by screwed sealing joints or vehicle manufacturers approved joint.

INSERTED BY ME - I read that as if a vehicle manufacturer uses it to join fuel hoses then so can you (Peugeot have push fit as standard to the fuel pump but use the odd compression fittings, not worm drive clips)
5.13.3.
If fitted with fuel fillers in a closed boot, or under closure, have collector/spill trays incorporated to drain
outside the vehicle.

I have been trying to get approved for the CSCC Forum on there for a couple of month but the admin hasn''t got back to me yet. We kind of thought if it didn't specify then it should be ok, but obviously we don't want to drive 5 hours to get turned away and it's always best to ask someone than guess! Thanks Mr P.

Thanks Alex, I've also spoken to a couple of Tin Topers now who have basically said the same thing. Next time we're buying a ready build car :).....if there's a next time.
