Just a quick one, I want to take the steering wheel and Airbag off, I have read it is usual to disconnect the battery but also if the ignition isn't turned on that's not strictly necessary?

I would always recommend disconnecting the battery at least 15min before messing with the airbag.

For the 2 min it takes to disconnect the battery I do it to be sure but yes, no ignition should be fine. I'd play it safe.

but you don't need to remove the centre nut, you can just remove the four small bolts, so a hammer is not required for this particular modification

Lotus didn't design the cowl to be CF. Yes its stronger but that's not the point, it won't crumple round your knees properly now.

Yea but by the looks you used a massive fukcing hammer.

To the original poster, it's worth having a few small screws of various sizes for when you do this. I found that the holes drilled on the CF surround are in the right places, but too big. The screws I removed were now too small to fix it firmly in place.
