Anyone tried any of these? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item35c3765495 They're cheap as chips and with a 12 month guarantee. Seems like they're worth a try?

I think I might bite the bullet. £38 a bearing, delivered and with 12 months warranty seems too good to pass up

I guess if you can be bothered with the hassle of changing one if they go wrong then you've nothing to lose. However, if you want more piece of mind and 'fit and forget' solution I'd probably go for one of the more well used suppliers.

It's not really ha hassle, it only takes 30 minutes to change one. In fact, you can probably do it in 10 minutes if you keep things clean and rust free. The main hassle would be returning it, I hate mailing things out to people...

I bought one from some place on eBay, £38 or something, listed as from an Astra. Fitted fine, works fine. Spins.. No complaints so far. My original wheel bearing was actually ok, but the ABS sensor wire had snapped off too close to the hub to reconnect, so has to buy a complete replacement..

A pain if it's a daily driver though.

Arent there issues with some wheels not fitting due to the tollerence of either the wheel or the bearing pack?

Had that issue on the original hubs, new wheels were tight to get on and off, originals were ok. I thought it was worth a punt.

I've also heard they can be tight on TD wheels. I have a set of TD 1.2, so I supposed I'll find out.

Just found this in the search:

astra G hub uses the same hub as the vx220 thumbsup

the vectra B does not use this type of hub and not sure about the vectra C

I think the type 1114 is the key if I remember right when I was double, tripple checking. My thinking was you have no way of knowing if the more expensive ones are actually any better unless you strip them and check the bearings inside. The only ones I found at the time that stated the bearing manufacturer were £140 each and quoting SKF. The only other worry is the machining tolerances which could be a worry no matter what you pay, for all we know all the castings are coming out of China. The difference being who assembles them and what bearings, plugs etc they use. And the same unit is used on much heavier cars than the VX anyway.

The biggest pain in changing the hub / bearing pack was removing the brake disc due to bloody seized (then subsequently rounded) disc retaining screw... Get past that and it easy. Just some liberal (but well aimed) smacks with a hammer / mallet got the old one out..

Yes, some of the cheaper ones appear to be a Bargain but choose carefully.

Crabash is correct, 1114 is the number associated with the Hub Bearing as there have been fitting issues with others. The OEM manufacturers were SKFand FAG. When I looked on Ebay a few months ago I found a 1114 made by Continental Direct which is part of the 'Continental Tyres Group', I doubt very much they would sell the lowest quality Hubs under their name. My rear bearing had gone and I got the part for £41 delivered. No problems so far (2000 miles) and it feels cooler than the other three which I will be replacing with these soon.

The machining looks very good and uniform.

These look like the same ones I posted, same bolts and same colouring. Which seller did you get them from?

Just ordered one of these as mine has snapped right at the base and has been 'fixed' half a dozen times now so time for a replacement! Will update when it's delivered.

Bought a cheapish one from eBay and it developed play within a few hundred miles. Bearing preload depends on the two halfs of the bearing being pressed together just so. Replaced with a genuine part, also from eBay.
