After my last drive the gear shift went really stiff. Side to side is fine but to engage any gear takes a hard push to get it in.

I've taken out the centre console to see if anything (new seats) was fouling the cables and that all looks fine.

I've followed the cables all the way back to the gearbox and everything looks to be in good order.

Next I was going to top up the gear oil (as I don't think I have enough for a full change) but I'm not sure where the plug is.

The bottom plug was easy to find, but I'm not sure if I've found the top one.

I have stuck some pliers in the plug to illustrate where I think it is.

Thanks. Rain stopped play, so I'll resume next weekend.

So I topped up the gear box oil today but I'm still experiencing a very stiff gear change. I took it for a spirited drive with lots if gear changes but it's still stiff. Not quite as bad as before but definitely not right. All gears are the same and there doesn't seem to be any other symptoms (no noise, grinding or clunking and it fully engages every time). Any ideas for what to try next?

Can anyone advise how to disconnect the gear cables from the gearbox?

I still have a stiff change and I'm guessing/hoping it's the cables and nothing to do with the box, so if I can disconnect the cables I should still have resistance to the gear stick movement.

Suitably sized spanner inserted underneath the balljoints and just lever up and they should pop off quite easily.

Ta.  Presumably just as easy to get them back on (in the right order of course)?

Yep, last time I did it they push on by hand without much effort.
