Around January of this year I sent my rear brake calipers away to be refurbished by a company I found online.  I did a bit of research and they appeared to have some good feedback.

When the calipers came back they looked great, new seals all around, freshly painted and looking like new.  By the time my car was rebuilt and ready for the road it was around May time this year.  It was then that both rear calipers failed the MOT due to the handbrake operation.  The guys at the garage could not get them to work and it became apparant that the handbrake mechanism must have been assembled in-correctly.

I spoke to the refurb company who agree to refund my money if I mailed my calipers back so they could investigate where the issue came from.  I had since bought replacement calipers which were fitted to the vehicle and passed its MOT as I needed it on the road.  The refurb'd calipers were then mailed back.

Now that was 5 weeks ago, I have rung the firm many times and keep being fobbed off that its being processed.  However on Friday I was told the company are struggling with cash flow and arent in a position to refund my money just yet.

Im at a bit of a loss what to do so I think my options are as follows:

1. Write to them by letter/email stating what has happened and putting a time limit on when I want the refund by or I will consider small claims court action.

2. Accept that even if I did take them to court over this small amount (£165) I might not get it anyway.

3. Ask them to return my calipers and give it up.

4. Accept is as a life lesson and leave it be.

Any advice would be greatly received.  Thanks.

3 and 4 sound like the same option.

I'd probably just ask for them back, fix the handbrake mechanism myself and stick them on ebay. It's not worth the hassle of the SCC for the sake of a few hundred quid.

If the company is gonna go into receivership, you need to get them back ASAP otherwise you risk losing them when it's liquidated

They are based near Nottingham.

Thats my concern, he told me to hang on and they will refund me once cash flow has improved, but obviously not happy with that.

So, ask them for 2 stages. A returnnofnthe calipers, and money to follow ASAP. That way, you get e calipers back and if they go under, you've only lost the money. If they remain afloat, they can refund.

Tbh if a company is struggling to return £165 think they may

has passed the point of no return + how many other customers

are they fobbing off, get the calipers back now before you lose

them.

If they are just struggling with money yet still open as a business. Can they fix them before you get them back?

Possibly, although I dont know how I would validate the work was completed properly without messing around swapping calipers over onto my own car?  When I complained that they werent working properly they offered me a refund and being as I already had replacement calipers lined up I saw that as the best option.

There is a members product/service reviews section. It is the needless bashing not based on direct experience that I think the forum rules actually means.
