The sock mod is fine but restricts the already limited flow. If you shine a torch through the front grill, you will see two intakes within the crash structure/mouth. You can tiger seal some mesh over them and that will help prevent a lot of that. Or just live with it. In france last year on an autoroute I drove through what must have been a swarm of bugs and the windscreen was peppered. Very shortly it all worked its way through the vents and I was covered in bodies and wings.

Putting mesh over the 2 holes in the crash box will require the front calm to come off.

Open the front bonnet, and you will see a large silver piping in there.

Carefull pull it off the part that goes into the cabin, just under the windshield.

You will see a normal pipe.

From the diy store, get some mesh, which you form to the diameter of the pipe.

Put it in, put the silver piping back, and that's it.

Clean it out once a year or so to prevent cloging.

If you're considering upgrading the heater then it comes with a filter built in

Pauline, there's no where to fit one on the VX. Pollen filters are just air box style filters, but to fit the heater must have been designed to accept one.

p.s my guy knows any part I need and can get it for such small money, all these cars should be fitted with the filter but Vauxhall couldn't be bothered, if you need small parts I can give you his number, don't suffer the flies and dust and crap just for a Pollen filter

Really? A convertible with a pollen filter. Sounds as effective as trying to feed North Korea with a packet of Tic Tacs

Of course it will affect air flow. If the filter is fine enough to stop pollen, how can it left decent airflow through.

I know it will affect the airflow but so does a sock Just if its tidy and easy to get in and out and clean

I have used an open cell sponge similar to that used for air filters. This restricts much less than a most things and stops all but the smallest dust particles. Just cut it to shape.
